First thanks to all who have made these great airplanes possible.
I have been flying the DC-8-20 (United Colors) and love the airplane. My problem is the aircraft crashes while taxing and sometimes on rollout when landing on rough spots on the taxiways and runways. The crashes are repeatable. However, when using other aircraft...the planes bounce a bit but do not crash. If I turn on the "ignore crashes" feature in FlightSim the DC-8 does not crash but bounces like the other aircraft.
Is there some way to adjust the aircraft config file to avoid the crashes and leave off the "ignore crashes" feature?
Thanks,
Jim

Does any other model of DC-8 bounce or crash like this one? It sounds like the contact points in the Aircraft.cfg file are wrong.

Also .... is this problem occurring with default MSFS airport sceneries .... OR .... addon FS airport sceneries ? I've never had the DC8-20, or any other aircraft (period) for that matter, "CRASH/DESTRUCT" on me per any scenario such as that you describe, but, I know for a fact there are 1 or 2 spots within the default MSFS KSEA scenery (normally around aprons which do result in aircraft making quite noticeable "CRUNCHING/VIBRATION" sounds as they pass over these areas .... but again .... I've never had this result in the "CRASH/DESTRUCTION" of any FS aircraft. You could, perhaps, try taxiing a wee bit more slowly near the affected areas .... and also make sure you're not overloaded too, but, if this is a scenery glitch then there's probably bugger all we/HJG can do about it. I must say that this's the first such report I've seen (that I immediately recall) .... other than the following similar (but different) posting by someone else in relation to the DC8-62 .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=2934.... but .... which was dismissed recently as likely being the result of scenery building beneath the aircraft as it loaded into FS. I too have seen a minor form of what was reported there (ranging from a mild "flick" to a single slight "bounce" or two) and in respect of a lot of both MSFS default and addon aircraft in my FS installation. I think you should leave off your Crash Detection as it is already highly unrealistic...
I once totally crashed a VC10 beyond repair driving it slightly into a taxiway sign ..... (DOH!)
regarding bounces ... well there could be alot of reasons ....

Another thing too ....
Whilst FDE edits have been applied to all the DC8's during the recent past (the last of these was around 2 years ago) these have been focused on flight and engine only related parameters.
The Contact Points for all of these aircraft have never been touched since their debut .... so far as I'm aware !

Yes, I had a previous version of the DC-8 and it crashed at the same spots the current version does. The scenery is MS default. The crashes are repeatable at certain spots on the taxiways at KSAT, Houston Hobby, Corpus Christi and others. Even with very slow taxi speeds the crash occurs. However, with default MS aircraft and other addon aircraft the planes "jump" a bit but do not crash.
Let me add this is not a show stopper! I love the airplane and will continue to fly it. I was just thinking that maybe there is a way to adjust the config file to tone down the bouncing enough to avoid the crash.
Thanks to all.

Based on your comments, and my own "crunching sound" experience (but not any crash), it does seem like your experiemce "IS" indeed scenery related. Even so .... it's a pitty you've have to exoperience it at all ! It's a hard question to answer really .... when we can't replicate the problem with precisely the same "end result" (destruction of the aircraft) and when some installations are maybe set for greater or less sentitive than others. This may not help in your case, but, you could possinbly try "THIS" .... my own FS sensitivity settings .... Within the FS 2004 "SETTINGS/REALISM" option I've got both the "GENERAL" and CRASH TOLERANCE" sliders set all the way across to "REALISTIC" .... with those 3 sliders in between these 2 options selected "OFF". I've also got the "IGNORE CRASH AND DAMAGE" option selected "OFF" .... and then the "DETECT CRASH AND DAMAgE", and both "AIRCRAFT STRESS CAUSES DAMAGE" and "ALLOW COLLISIONS WITH OTHER AIRCRAFT" options selected "ON". Beyond that I can't really suggest anything else to try .... other than the basic advice already offered above. Mark C AKL/NZ
