Hello To all... Firstly, brilliant work being done here. The quality is really high. (Which leads me to suspect there's something wrong at this end re: downloads) Anyway...I've scrolled through the 'FSX Support for HGJ Aircraft' forum for an answer to this very simple question I've got (relative to the others on here) I can't seem to get the Auto-throttle switch to move on either the 707-320 (SAA) or the 727-100 (SAA) both panels are the 747 provided with the default base model. For the 707: the Auto-brake switch is inactive, nor will the speed hold button work. I do hope I'm not missing something really obvious here...Any help would be most appreciated. I'm new to this art of downloading by the way..so I'm learning...the hard way Thanks Raif

The oldtimers didn't have either Auto Throttle nor auto brake, so my best guess is that is not modelled ... (or incidentally left out in the aircraft.cfg)

Hello Zapilot;
As Dan stated above, these aircraft originally were not equipped with autothrottle and autobrrake system.
I am not sure if you are using the default 747 panel ( which is supplied with the panel file ) because you are a bit unfamiliar with the downloading procedure, but yourally should make an attempt to download and replace the default panel with the proper one for the particular aircraft that you are using.
The proper panels are all available from the HJG download page accompanied with easy and straight forward installation instructions.
Give it a try and don't hesitate to ask if you should encounter any problems.

What Dan sais (above) is "quite correct" .... and .... I do recommend you consider what Herman endorses too in respect of installing the HJG supplied panels for these aircraft and which "WILL" go a long way toward improving your FS experience/enjoyment.
I'd also like to add, just on a historical/technical note, that some (though by no means all) B707 and DC8 aircraft were actually equipped with an early type of AT system "of sorts" .... but .... according to feedback we've recieved over the years, from retired professional pilots whom flew these aircraft, these early AT systems were known to not function sufficiently reliably and were, apparently therefore, mostly not ever employed.
On an additional note .... and FYI .... our B727-200 ADVC, and B727-200F ADVC RE SUPER 27 panels (only) do both feature a functioning AT system .... which is consistent with aircraft of their generation. This system (actually modeled by a professional pilot with B727-200 ADVC time) doesn't work like modern day AT systems .... so .... I recommend you study my B727 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES posting, located on the ABOUT HJG AIRCRAFT forum page, to understand precisely how it should be used. I understand our BAe 146 panel also features an AT .... and possibly AB system as well. This is a very comprehensive panel and studying the downloadable manual for it is "ESSENTIAL" in order to be able to use/enjoy it properly.
As for AT and all our other aircraft .... o
One must set power, and then constantly monitor and adjust it as necessary, in order to maintain a constant speed .... "just like it used to be done in those glorious golden by-gone days of early jetliner operations".

Thank you all for your quick responses. (slightly embarrassed by the initial Q) All very informative, interesting and encouraging (Thank you Herman) I'll try to download the 'genuine' Panels as I'm sure they'll add to the pleasure of flying these aircraft. After reading the Forum relating to the panels, it's clear that these are as realistic as possible...promise, I'll read the manuals Should I get the things to work.. Best wishes ZA

Hello again I tried to install the panel for the 727-100. So far I've got the actual panel, but the gauges are blank (Black) I followed the instructions that came with the download (B727-Early) and the B727 Core files as advised. I'm hoping that you could advise me as to why there are blank gauges. I've attached a couple of screen shots showing what the 727 file looks like. (may help) I think I may have gone wrong somewhere. I've edited the Panel folder (changing the Alias) and followed the instructions to the letter to read correctly as described. Apologies for this...must be very frustrating for you. Thanks Raif

It's important to remember that the installation of all HJG panel files (except the AFG CARAVELLE panel files) are in "2 parts" .... as follows .... 1. The actual "PANEL" download .... which comprises of all the panel BMP files and PANEL.CFG. These files should be installed precisely as recommended per the accompanying installation instructions. 2. The "GAUGES & CORE FILES" download .... which comprises of all the necessary Gauges files .... and Panel Gauge Sound files (the contents of the Gauges component of this download must be installed inside the FS "GAUGES" folder .... and the contents of the Sound component of this download must be installed inside the FS "SOUND" folder and not the Sound folder inside your Aircraft Base Pack file). Once again .... these files should be installed precisely as recommended per the accompanying installation instructions. In the case of B727 panel installation, I recommend folk take time to familiarize themselves with my "B727 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES" .... located on the "ABOUT HJG AIRCRAFT" forum page. This service document contains simplified installation instructions .... as well as a lot of advice intended to aid folk to getting the very best out of these B727 panels, and our B727 simulations generally. I hope you will find this sufficiently helpful ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Thank you for your response... I too hope that I "will find this sufficiently helpful ! " I'll try again. Clearly, you found something in my attachment to suggest I did not follow the instructions icluded in the download. Regards Raif

As this thread is in the FSX-section I suppose that you are running FSX, hence you need also to use the aircraft-fsx.cfg and not the aircraft.cfg .... delete or rename aircraft.cfg, and then rename aircraft-fsx.cfg to aircraft.cfg ..... (remember to transport all your fltsim-sections to the new aircraft.cfg....)

Hello Thank you all, for your time. I've managed to install both the 707 & 727 panels. After much staring at the screen trying (and some help from a FS friend in Belgium) to work out what went wrong. Basically I didn't "Unzip" the folders for the Core Panels enough. Daft mistake...clearly still a novice at this! Having said that, well worth the effort. These are brilliant panels..Thanks..now to learn how to use them. Regards ZA
