I may be able to help here. Although I do not use FSX I believe I have experienced the exact opposite of this problem. Removing the (FSX /panel/sound/aircraft cfg files within each respective folder) helped to get my plane to display within my FS9. I believe you might be able to get your "20" to show in FSX by eliminating (fs9 /panel/sound and aircraft.cfg files within the respective folders) If you already haven't done so; look for text errors within the FSX aircraft cfg. A common error is shown below. Also look for extra folders within any downloaded folders. In other words cut and paste only the last folder of any folders downloaded. Hope this helps. Ensure your text includes all letters/numbers by verbatim. Also ensure your first texture entry is [fltsim.0] Not [fltsim00]Do not leave the [fltsim.xx]as illustrated below.
[fltsim.xx] (Common error illustrated left) Shoud be [0,1-9,or 10,11,etc] title=DC-9-20 McDonnell Douglas '1969' sim=DC-9-20 model=02 panel= sound= texture=mcdd_1969_n8965u description=McDonnell Douglas DC-9-20 kb_checklists= atc_id=N8965U atc_airline= atc_flight_number= atc_heavy=0 atc_parking_codes= atc_parking_types=GATE,CARGO,RAMP ui_manufacturer=McDonnell Douglas ui_type=DC-9-20 ui_variation=McDonnell Douglas '1969' ui_typerole=Commercial Airliner ui_createdby=Historic Jetliners Group
Note: the the last two lines above appear to be related for FSX only. Also try using the fs9 related files if my suggestions above do not help. (The dc8-73 does not have any FSX files and apparently works fine within your FSX). Either of my suggestion relies on using "one" verision of flight sim.
Note: When installing my livery textures for files (which included both FSX and FS9 aircraft cfg files) the notes would not save on my fs9 aircraft CFG file until I deleted the (FSX Aircraft cfg) file within my aircrafts base files. I experienced this when the last 727-100 update files were first available. Had eyecramps for about an hour till i figured out what was going on.
Hope this helps you out
