Hello everyone,
First of all, let me thanks all the HJG team and contributors for all the very nice job you are doing for the flight simming community. Very much appreciated!
I have just downloaded and installed DC-8-72F and DC-8-73 panel, sound, aircraft, Etc...
All installation was as explained.
The DC-8-73 (the first one to be tested) worked perfectly the first time (for 2-3 hours). Then I shutted down the PC and restarted the following day to give it another go on the -73 but then I had a gauge compatibility issue (with dc8sw.gau) that is not solved since:
Each time I am trying to load a DC-8 (even after having selected a default FS2004 aircraft) FS is giving me a "non-compatible gauge" message and is telling me that I can use the aircraft but the gauge will be desactivated and that message is repeating itself for all gauges that trying to load (numbers equivalent to the entry of the panel.cfg of the dc8sw.gau).
I tried to remove all DC-8 files and download the files again and re-install them again as specified but still exactly the same errors thus unable to use the DC-8.
Very strange as it did work fine the first time...
Did I miss something somewhere? I confirm that I have downloaded 2 times the most current version of all files (2 days ago and yesterday) and installed everything exactly as specified. I have FS9.1 with Windows XP pack3
Thanks for your kind help...
Alex

There's never been any such compatibility issue with any of our current DC8 gauges/panel files .... in either FS2004 or FSX .... so far as I'm aware ! The fact you say your panel worked fine .... without any apparent issues .... on the very first occasion you used it after installation seems "STRANGE" Some FS panels .... though not our DC8's .... will cause display a "POTENTIALLY INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE" warning to display when FS2004 boots up and before any aircraft is even selected .... and the gauge in question might also then be named too. In such a case FS would normally offer 2 options .... (1) to select "YES" to load the gauge anyway and continue (which will result in its working fine when the aircraft/panel combination is selected) .... or (2) to disable the gauge and continue (which would probably result in the panel either not loading at all or loading with missing gauges). Normally a situation like this is remedied by editing the name of the supposedly incompatible gauge into [OLD MODULES] section of your FS9.CFG file .... and with the suffix =1 too. I don't think this is the problem in your case though because, as already stated above, there is no such known DC8 gauge incompatibility in either FS2004 or FSX to start with. What .... if any .... modifications have you made to that panel/gauges set ? Failing that I "suggest" that you may have something else on that PC .... installed in FS maybe .... that's influencing things. Sorry I can't throw any further light on this .... but .... other intelligent advice is welcome should anyone care to volunteer it. Mark C AKL/NZ

Hello Mark, Thanks for your reply. The error didn't give me any choice, just an OK click area. It is getting worse now as I don't even have those errors any more, just a crash from FS and it is giving me the dc8sw.gau as a problem (and of course asking me if I want to send a report, etc...), even after several computer reboot. I have several payware and freeware add-on installed and it is the only one doing this to me. I didn't modified anything at all from the DC-8. And I think that I have to agree with you stating that it should work fine as it look like I am the only one in this case... I tried to installed the default C-172, B-747-400 panel, other 4 jet engine freeware panel, your DC-8 panel but without the gauge installed and even no panel at all to have a check at it and the plane is loading but it freeze FS almost immediately in every cases resulting in a CTD. I tried also to load it from a neutral/default scenery but still same issues. Well, will try to investigate a little bit more and if no luck I'll have to uninstall the DC-8... Anyway, thanks a lot for your kind help... Alex

I hazard a guess .... to "suggest" (only) .... that you've got some corruptions going on there my friend .... the nature of which I, myself, have never heard of nor experienced previously "EVERYTHING" should run just fine ! Has anyone else out there got some intelligent opinions to offer regarding this ?Mark C AKL/NZ

Hello again Mark,
I have tried to install the Convair 880 and the KC-135 with the B707 panel and exactly the same thing happen. By the way I have to correct my statement: It doesn't say that the Gauge is incompatible, it says that FS cannot load an aircraft or a program and that I will be able to use the aircraft but that the following things will be disabled. The following thing is the gauge file (either dc8sw.gau or the Convair's equivalent).
I just tried to install 2 different freeware panels and aircrafts package from a totally different website and everything is working just fine, also all my payware and freeware aircraft already installed are working just fine too. It look like it is coming just from the gauges coming from HJG.
Do you think that the gauges might get corrupted during the download for any reason??
Another thing, I have 2 B707 panel/aircraft from HJG that I have downloaded and installed about 3-4 years ago and they are working just fine...
Thanks.
Alex

I'm sorry you appear to be having such problems Alex .... but .... you shouldn't be .... and so far as I'm aware nobody else is.
That's always a possibility .... of course .... and could probably even be something in relation to your own system/network .... or maybe even something else you've got going on inside FS.
Again .... it's just very odd that things should work fine at first .... then not properly later on and within hours of an installation .... considering that, you say, nothing has been edited. Whatever the case may be this could be specific to your own system or installation
I've never heard of any such problem before .... and .... so far as I'm aware .... the gauges/panels files for all of these aircraft have been fine since they were last updated .... see applicable dates on each of the downloads pages.
Once again .... can anyone else here offer Alex some intelligent advice/councel regarding his particular issue ?
It would be nice to be able to alleviate this and get him up and running !

Could you please tell us the size and date for your copy of the gau?
Sorry if I misunderstood you, but the dc8sw.gau is not used in either the Convairs nor Boeing Panels (not to my knowledge anyway, so it's a bit strange that you should receive errors on that gau when loading the other aircraft?
As you probably know you can see directly in the panel.cfg where the particular gau is referred, and of course most of all the gauges in the DC-8 panels are from that particualr "mother-gau"
The "gau" extension is actually an ordinary dll, just renamed to gau in order for FS to understand it. But the latest version is a genuine FS2004 gau, and thus you shouldn't have any problems with it. had it been a FS98 version it would be a different ballgame, and for one it wouldn't even be loaded in FSX, and only with the help of the OLDMODULES configuration mentioned before. A genuine FS2004 loads fine in FSX, and as I have FSX only I can witness that the present version is fully comapatible with both Win XP sp3 and Win7. Just out of interest: do you use a 32bit or a 64bit O/S?

Hello,
Sorry for the delay, was quite busy on the job...
The DC-8 gauges details:
dc8sw.gau 10.3Mo
The Convair gauges details:
cv880sw 7.38Mo
It is not only the DC-8 gauges that report the problem, it is the DC-8 when I select the DC-8 and the cv880 when I select the Convair. As for the B707, it is the gauges are dated from 2006 (didn't updated them since) and they are working just fine.

I simply can't replicate "ALEXAIR's" problem .... and ..... I'm not aware of anyone else reporting similar issues either ! I too .... are using the latest/currently available panels, gauges/core files, and base packs/FDE for all of these aircraft .... and in FS2004 .... and .... we know these also work fine in FSX as well! FYI .... our B707, CONVAIR, and DC8 panel core files packages were all last updated during December 2009 .... to address some very minor GPWS as well as metric (option) F/F issues. Mark C AKL/NZ

The latest currently downloadable files for all of these aircraft panel core files data should appear precisely as follows ....
b707_core_files_v1.4 .... comprising of 3 essential files with the following last modified dates ....
707-120.gau = Friday, 5 December 2008, 6:29:52 p.m. 707-320.GAU = Saturday, 14 November 2009, 12:24:04 p.m. 707-LATE.GAU = Saturday, 14 November 2009, 11:14:18 a.m.
Convair Panel Core Files v2.1 .... comprising of 2 essential files with the following last modified dates ....
cv880sw.gau = Monday, 28 December 2009, 1:06:46 p.m. DC8_kln90b.gau = Thursday, 15 April 2004, 2:31:24 p.m.
DC-8_Panel_Core_Files_v1.2 .... comprising of 2 essential files with the following last modified dates ....
dc8sw.gau = Saturday, 14 November 2009, 12:18:30 p.m. DC8_kln90b.gau = Thursday, 15 April 2004, 3:31:24 p.m.
The above represents what you should have installed .... both in terms of gauge file names and their last modified dates.
"IF" you have anything other or earlier than these then you've got the wrong, or an outdated, gauges/core files packages.
Additionally .... these files must be used with each of our latest version and currently downloadable panel and aircraft base pack files ....
If you've not updated your panel files, or aircraft base pack files too, at the time of installation/reinstallation then this could .... conceivably .... result in problems.

Hello,
Thanks everyone for your very kind help, I don't want to bother you anymore, you have better job to do. I really think also that it is a a problem coming from my global config (PC, software, hardware, FS, etc...). I'll see what I can do about it (might need to re-install everything) and let you know about the result. What is very strange is why only with HJG packages and not with any others... The mystery of computer things... Just one last thing, it is getting worse with HJG package everyday. Now it won't even load the MDL (it is giving me an error and crash to desktop even with a FS default panel which are working just fine with other aircrafts) but only with the newest HJG files installed not the oldest one. No other very recently add-on installed are doing this... Never saw that before, really need to clean everything and re-install I guess.
Thanks,
Alex

Hmm.... I wonder if you could specify in which folder you have placed said gau-files?
