I resolved this issue but I thought I would share it here for anyone else that had the same problem.
I was experiencing a "CTD" when clicking on any of several switches on the new panels. After clicking on a switch a little window would appear stating that the sound file was missing then FS would go black then shut down.
The installation instructions state this:
2. The subfolder named "Sounds" contains the WAV samples required for all HJG DC-9 panels. Install the entire contents of this folder inside your FS2004 "SOUNDS" folder.
My FS9 root folder has two folders, one named Sounds, the other sound. As per the instructions I installed the WAV files to the Sounds folder but after experiencing the problem several times I moved the WAV files to the sound folder and the issue went away.
I don't know why mine would be different than anyone elses but that is what I found. I hope this is helpful.

INTERESTING .... since there should, by default, be only 1 "SOUND" folder among the FS9 route folders. I suppose the fact you have 2 could have been imposed by something else you've got installed. In any case .... its the FS9 "SOUND" folder within which you need to install all of that panel WAV data. YES .... it is ! Mark C AKL/NZ

I was having some issues with sound files not initializing as well, and it was due to the same reason. As I still have the core files zip archive, I just took a peek, and the download has the sound folder labeled as "sounds" instead of "sound".
As I had just copied the folders over this time (a spot of laziness on my part) from my temp folder, it dumped the new sounds in the wrong spot. Easily corrected, but I thought it might be well to pass along a head's up to save others a spot of bother.
Hope this helps, Chris

Guys .... that "SOUNDS" folder is just a container within the Panel Gauges/Core Files package .... as are both the "MODULES" and "GAUGES" folders too.
These folders are simply containers for each of the separate elements required for these panels and which go to different FS destination folders
You're not supposed to install these container folders intact.
The instructions state .... install the "contents" (only) of these folders to each of the respective FS destination folders.
In other words .... the contents (only) of the Panel Gauges/Core Files "SOUNDS" folder folder go to FS "SOUND" folder.
The contents (only) of the Panel Gauges/Core Files "GAUGES" folder go to FS "GAUGES" folder.
The contents of the "MODULES" folder is the one to be careful regarding .... because .... as the installation instructions state .... the FSSOUND.DLL file goes to the FS "MODULES" folder (with the recommended [OLDMODULES] edit also having to be made to the FS9.CFG file too) .... but .... the GAUGESOUND.DLL goes to the "FLIGHT SIMULATOR 9" folder and with no CFG edit being necessary.

I did copy just the contents of the folders over and not the folders themselves. I do know how to follow instructions . The only other WAV files in that Sounds folder are for the old MAAM-SIM B25 Briefing Time so it must be the source of the odd folder.

HMMM .... that's starting to make sense now then .... and .... explains a few things ! Although I suspected another FS product might add a "SOUND S" folder to the FS route directory (as I mentioned in my first reply) .... from the way your 2nd reply was worded .... I mistakenly thought you might have installed the complete "SOUND S" container/folder from the Panel Gauges/Core Files package. SORRY ABOUT THAT ! There "IS" .... I now see .... a typo within the Panel Gauges/Core Files installation instructions .... in that it refers to installing these WAV files to a "SOUND S" rather than the intended "SOUN D folder" This typo .... and the fact that some FS products might create there own "SOUND S" folder within the FS9 route directory (as B25 BRIEFIG TIME may do) .... is a complete and totally unanticipated "coincidence". Folk whom didn't have such a 2nd "SOUND S" folder would have installed all this WAV into the correct/intended MSFS default "SOUN D" folder .... I guess ! I can see precisely what "ROUGHLANDINGS" was trying to communicate now ! ;D I'll get someone to edit that typo ASAP .... so .... hopefully .... nobody else falls into the same trap. Mark C AKL/NZ
