I recently downloaded the DC-9-50 aircraft and am using the dc-9-50 jt8d-17 v1 panel. I am running FS 2004. All gauges work perfectly except for the switches in the top panel below the windshield. The gear horn warning switch activates on approach and since I cannot control the switches - I cannot turn it off!! I would appreciate any suggestions or assistance to have all the switches, altitude alert, landing lights, etc work. This is a GREAT flying aircraft!! Thank you in advance!!

All of those switches .... from the FD at the extreme left and across to the last of the lighting at the extreme right .... are indeed "FULLY OPERABLE". Have you modified .... or attempted to modify .... your PANEL.CFG in any way at all .... by either adding/removing/adjusting features ? I also presume you've got the entire contents of the panel gauges folder installed inside the FS9 "GAUGES" folder .... as they should be. Also .... check that the FSSOUND.DLL file is installed inside the FS9 "MODULES" folder (and that the prescribed OLDMODULES edit is added to the FS9.CFG) .... and that the GAUGESOUND.DLL file is installed inside the "FLIGHT SIMULATOR 9" folder. There have been some situations where a few people have not followed the instructions and ended up installing both of these DLL files inside the MODULES folder, or, not installing them at all .... and which has caused the panel to either not run at all or exihibit some strange tendancies. Beyond these possibilities .... I wouldn't have a clue what's going on there ! There's been 2 reports (only), so far, of the Gear Horn being triggered, but, both of these reports are under completely different circumstances .... it seems During my 10 month testing of these panels I could only ever cause/force this to happen, on 2 occasions, and under very extreme circumstances .... in my case a dive from 31,000 FT to around 3,000 FT with the Spoilers deployed and Power Levers fully idled .... and which is a circumstance completely different again from those of the 2 other reports we've recieved. The following extract is from our DC9 forum manual/PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES .... in relation to the Gear warning Horn .... I'm sorry I can't advise, more definitively, regarding those switches .... because I can't replicate or even guess what the problem may be .... other than those suggestions already provided above Mark C AKL/NZ

Thank you for your comments!! I have not modified any of the files for the panel - the panel .cfg was modified per the instruction to read alias=fsfsconv\panel.dc-9-50_jt8d-17. All gauges were placed in the gauges folder and the FSSOUND.DLL installed in the modules folder. The GAUGESOUND.DLL was also installed in the fs9 folder. OLDMODULES edit was added to the fs9.cfg I don't have a clue about what I did wrong??!!

From your text .... you appear to have put all the right bits in the right places. And your CFG editing appears to be OK too. I've not checked your attachment .... I really prefer these things to be copied & pasted to you forum posting please ! Have you tried removing everything .... THEN .... redownloading and installing everything once again .... just in case things have been corrupted, in your case, during the original download ? This can happen ! The fact you imply everything else is working .... with the exception of these switches .... is really weird though Mark C AKL/NZ

With XP, the config file is under 'Documents and Settings'; click the 'owner' file, then the 'Application Data'; then 'Microsoft'. There your will find the FS9 file.
For later OS's, I have no idea, but they might be quite similar.

This may help you ..... too
The fs9.cfg file will be located in your personal Application Data folder.
On Windows 2000/XP systems, this is located in \Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.cfg.
For Windows 9x users the path is \Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg).
The Application Data folder is hidden, so you will need to enable viewing of hidden files/folders under the Folder Options in your Explorer.

FYI
In Vista or Windows7 the fs9.cfg is located: Documents and Settings have been replaced by Users
C:\Users\**Your ID**\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9

I have a similar problem The aircraft and panel core files are installed as per the install notes, but when I go to use the wing landing light switches I get a "Creation failed - check if sound file is available" FS9 crashes with the gaugesound.dll as the reason so it sounds like FS is tring to play a sound and isn't finding the sound file or something, where are the sound packs supposed to be installed? as of now they are installed as per the install notes. Thanks.
Addition: I changed the target of the sound.cfg to the soundpack, but the problem is still there. Jared

As a matter of interest .... I've just installed the DC9's .... today .... on someones PC here in Colombia (as I have on many other PC's prior to today and without a single issue) .... and .... there are no problems with any of the files provided.
There must be a step within the instructions which you're misdunderstanding .... or otherwise not following.
Briefly ....
The "contents" of the Gauges folder (DC9 panel Core Files/Gauges package) must all be installed inside the FS9 "GAUGES" folder.
The "contents" of the Sounds folder (DC9 Core Files/Gauges package again) must all be installed inside the FS9 "SOUND" folder .... not the default Sound folder of your DC9 aircraft base pack .
PAY ATTENTION HERE.... there are 2 files contained within the Modules folder (DC9 Core Files/Gauges package once again) and these must be installed as follows .... the FSSOUND.DLL must be installed inside the FS9 "MODULES" folder (use only the FSSOUND.DLL module supplied) .... but .... THe GAUGESOUND.DLL must be installed inside the "FLIGHT SIMULATOR 9" folder .... then you must locate your FS9.CFG file and edit it as follows ....
[OLDMODULES] FSSound.dll=1
It is recommended that the above edit be copied and pasted to the FS9.CFG file to avoid potential for typographical errors.
Save the avove edit.
Your DC9 panels should be installed inside the FS9 "FSFSCONV" folder as directed .... and the PANEL.CFG inside the default Panel folder contained inside your DC9 aircraft base pack then edited accordingly too .... all precisely according to the installation instructions provided within each downlodable panel file.
The DC9 engine sounds packages (see the "DOUGLAS" aircraft Sounds downloads page) should be installed directly inside your DC9 aircraft base pack .... the "SOUND" folder containe within each one of the soundpacks replaced the defaoult Sound folder inside your DC9 aircraft base pack/s
Please .... follow the instructions provided or as outlined above.
Don't try to "wing it" .... or .... problems will/may be experienced.
If all of the above is done properly/correctly .... then there's absolutely no logical rasaon for these panels to not work or for problems to occur.

Ok if that works, I think I forgot to do the bottom part, why are there sounds in the default sounds folder unless the soundpacks reference to some of them? Just curious because it seems like a double neg if you throw the extra soundpacks directly into the aircraft's sound folder.
ADDITION: I found the problem, which was because I had to lose the file structure that the unzipper put in, which to me was not expressed in the instructions.

Probably because what you refer to as breing the default Sound folder (the one contained within the Panel Gauges/Core Files package) is not what you're anticipating it to be.
That folder is nothing more than a holding/containing folder for all the Panel sounds .... which interact with all the Gauges. Both lots of files must be kept separate .... with the Panel Gauges and Panel Sounds needing to go to different FS destination folders. Again .... all panel Gauges go to the FS9 "GAUGES" folder .... and .... all Panel sounds go to the FS9 "SOUND" folder .... and not the Sound folder inside your aircraft base pack.
The custom aircraft engine soundpacks are entirely different installation again .... with these going into the aircraft base pack folder to replace the default Sound folder that already exists there. That default Sound folder inside you aircraft base pack contains nothing more than a default SOUND.CFG file which is aliased to the default FS9 B737-400.
I do believe our instructions (both within the downloadable files, and, those also featured within our DC9 PANELS INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES on this forum page are sufficiently clear regarding all of these details.
What different unzipping tools do on different system may vary. We need to trust that folk both understand their own systems PC and tools .... and .... basic MSFS file structure too.
Personally .... I feel it's always best to UNZIP files to a temporary folder first .... then install everything (by dragging and dropping all the various elements) to the appropriate MSFS destination folders .... in accordsance with the instructions provided.
