When I installed the DC-8-30 last night, the altimeter and turn needle were not visible. I deleted the panel download, downloaded it again, and redid the panel installation, but they were still not there.
When I looked closely at the panel.cfg file, "gauge03" looked odd: it listed "ALT10" as the altimeter. On a hunch, I changed that to "ALT," and the altimeter appeared after I reloaded the airplane.
The turn needle is still missing.
I thought this information would help you fix this problem. Other than this, it's a really nice sim.

You don't state whether you're using FS2004 .... or FSX .... not that this should make any difference at all because these panels/guages/core files, and aircraft/FDE are compatile with both SIM versions. I've just checked this altimeter issue for you (in FS2004) .... using my own DC8-30 panel and aircraft base pack/FDE (same as those available here) and confirm there is "ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM" whastsoever ! The altimeter needles appear fine, for me, in my DC8-30 panel .... as they do with each of my other DC8 panels as well. The "ALT10" gauge reference is "CORRECT" in relation to the particular altimeter gauge intended for the DC8-30 panel .... and is, intentionally, the same as that applied to the DC8 SHIP ONE 1959, DC8-10, DC8-20, and DC8-40 panels also .... featuring a 3 pointer altimerter. By comparison .... the DC8-50, DC8-61, DC8-62/63, DC8-71, and DC8-72/73 panels all, intentionally, feature a single pointer altimeter. These 2 different altimeter types have been standard features of these panels for the past 8 years. Unless you've made other modifications to your panel, or, panel/gauges core files I can't think of and nor am I aware of any previous situation either .....that I can immedidiately recall .... that might cause altimeter needles not to display in these panels. "AEROART" .... when you installed you DC8 panel gauges you should have installed the following 2 files .... dc8sw.gau
DC8_kln90b.gau.... inside the GAUGES folder of FS rather than anywhere else. These 2 files represent the "entire" DC8 panel gauges content ! Please check that you've done this .... and the remainder of the panel instasllation process too .... precisely in accordance with our recommended panel installlation procedures. Sorry I can't be of more definitive/productive help here .... but .... I simply can't replicate your problem .... and nor am I aware of anyone else whom has exsperienced it either ! Again the PANEL.CFG "ALT10" gauge reference is "correct", and intentional, for the DC8 SHIP ONE 1959 through DC8-40 panels. Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark,
I'm using FS2004 and didn't make any changes. The altimeter that appeared is a single-pointer model. Maybe it was just a poorly transmitted download. I'll try it again tomorrow. Thanks for looking into this.

That's always a possibility .... of course.
Fo the sake of enjoying the intended differences between these panels I do hope this can be resolved for you.

Mark,
I will certainly take a closer look at the solutions you suggested. Thank you for taking the time to help.

In the original version of the DC-8 panel (before I edited it for FSX compatibility and various other reasons) the 3-needle altimeter was a separate GAU file, while in the current version it is part of DC8SW.GAU. Perhaps you have an old version of DC8SW.GAU and need to install the latest Core Files...

"YES" .... please do as George suggests.
You should be seeing a 3 pointer Altimeter in each of the DC8 SHIP ONE 1950 through DC8-40 panels .... and .... a single pointer Altimeter in each of the DC8-50 through 73 panels.
So long as you're using the latest/current HJG DC8 panels gauges/core files .... and have these correctly installed .... then you will/should not experience any problems whatsoever.
