Hi Just installed the DC-8s as per this thread - tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=questionsonfsxandhjg&action=display&thread=2081I get a morse code beeping when the aircraft are first loaded up, it goes as soon as I change location. Everything else works just fine. Anyone else get this or know what it might be? Thanks Ps. Where is the 54 model? The USAF (1988 - 163050 - DC-8-54F) textures need it and I can't see it anywhere. It's not in the DC-8-50F base pack and there isn't a specific 54F section.

The morse code you here, might well be the VOR/NDB that your radio is currently tuned on to.
I might not have explained this good enough, but maybe someone else can.
Regarding the missing model, I just have to do a few checks ...
Hmmm. Mark better answer this ...

YES IT IS ! In fact both of the only military DC8's we've ever represented .... USAF DC8-55JT # 80080 (1962) US NAVY DC8-54F # 163050 (1988) .... are still located on our "DC8-50F" downloads page .... along with our aircraft base pack for this aircraft .... where they've always been since first being uploaded during 2005/6. I think Darren is asking for the baseback reffered to in the "add to aircraft" file, where it mentions 54F in the sim= section .... And I dont' see any 54F basepack either?? But perhaps that's an error in the "add to aircraft" file?

But perhaps that's an error in the "add to aircraft" file? That's right, the USN (not USAF, sorry) textures refer to:- "sim=DC-8-54F_2k4" in the aircraft.cfg and I cannot see that mdl file in the base pack. Full text from the add to aircraft txt file [fltsim.xx] // Change "xx" to next number in sequence starting from 0 title=HJG DC-8-54F US Navy (EC-24A) 1988 sim=DC-8-54F_2k4 model= panel= sound= texture=us_navy_1988_54f_163050 kb_checklists= kb_reference= visual_damage=1 description=HJG Douglas DC-8-54F/EC-24A repaint by John DETRICK ui_manufacturer=Douglas ui_type=DC-8-54F ui_variation=US Navy (EC-24A) (1988) atc_id=163050 atc_airline=NAVY atc_flight_number=854 atc_heavy=0 atc_parking_codes=ALK atc_parking_types=GATE,CARGO,RAMP Missing part or incorrect text in the cfg?

Mark has to clear this out, but meanwhile you might try to use the available 50F basepack, and thus edit the sim= to point to the other .air file of course. I know for certain that the topmost of Mark's screenshots is actually using the 50F basepack, so I'm more or less certain that it is a simple typo in the "add to aircraft" file. But before I correct it, I want to be sure.... but as I said, you might try on your own.... it won't explode your PC or something

Thanks.

Changed sim=DC-8-54F_2k4 to sim=DC-8-50F_2k4 And everything seems to look fine to me, no errors now.

I've just checked the DC8-50F aircraft baase pack .... and the AIR.FILE name is correctkly labelled as follows .... DC-8-50F_2k4I've also just checked the DC8-50F USAF texture .... and the SIM= reference on tha AIRCRAFT.CFG/ADD TO AIRCRAFT data is correctly labelled as follows .... sim=DC-8-50F_2k4I've additionally just checked the Dc8-50F US NAVY texture .... and the SIM= reference on tha AIRCRAFT.CFG/ADD TO AIRCRAFT data is "incorrectly" labelled as follows .... sim=DC-8-54F_2k4 .... it should be labbeled as follows .... sim=DC-8-50F_2k4It's obviously been like this .... "undetected" .... since that particular file was first uploaded a few years ago. FYI .... as we always refer to our aircraft base pack files according to their "basic aircraft type" name the AIR.FILE names for these aircraft (the ones discussed here) should all appear labelled "DC8-50F_2k4" .... rather than DC8-54F, DC8-55JT or any other aircraqft sub cateheory reference/name. I hope this helps clear everything up ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Dan
When I tune the VOR frquency into my CL-44 I hear the morse until I start up, then the engines mask the sound.
Might be something similar here

Don't think so Garry The only thing I can think of that might cause this to happen is if any of the Radio Stack NAV frequenciey ID buttons (be it NAV1/2, ADF 1/2) have been activated during a previous aircraft selection within the same FS session .... and before selecting the DC8 .... because FS will always carry a previous aircraft configuration across to a subsequent aircraft selection. That's about the only thing I can think of that might cause this. Normally those NAV ID buttons are "OFF" .... by default .... until selected "ON" .... and which needs to be done manually except in the case of the above suggestion. Over my almost 10 years of association with the HJG DC8's and their panels .... and right throughout their various changes along the way too .... I've never heard of this being an issue with any of them. Mark C AKL/NZ
