Hello all, Is there any chance of doing the United Friendship liverie using this model? HJG Douglas DC-8-71 Delta Air Lines 1983, It's not listed in the DC-8-71 list.

Dan, It looks like the DC-8-61 Friendship that's listed. the only difference is the engines which the DC-8-71 has. The United I flew to Hawaii in Did'nt have Friendship on the fuselage. It had a United Super DC8 shield just below and forward of the pilots window. Strange I know but that's how it looked. My trip to Hawaii was in 1967. Does this help?
I'm using FS2004. Thank you, Tim

Perhaps I am a bit confused, but if you are looking for a repaint of a plane you flew on in 1967, you did not fly on a DC-8-71. The DC-8 Super 70 series modifications weren't certified until the early 1980s (1982 I think).
In 1967 it would have been a DC-8-61 on United. The Series 60s were refered to by Douglas as the "Super Sixty" series, so it is possible that your DC-8-61 had a Super DC8 shield on it.

Nick is "QUITE RIGHT" .... and what "SKYKING" sais is a distinct possibility also.So far as I am aware .... "NONE" of the UA DC8-71's ever supported the "FRIENDSHIP" scheme of the late 1960's/early 1970's .... not even as a retro job when the UA -61's were upgraded to -71's during the early 1980's. For this reason .... we/HJG wouldn't contemplate doing such a livery .... because we just don't represent "FAKE LIVERIES" at all. HOWEVER .... if you want a "FRIENDSHIP" liveried UA DC8-71 "that badly" ;D .... what you could do is take the existing fuselage and tail textures from our "FRIENDSHIP" liveried UA -61 and put these into a -71 texture folder. That would work .... basically .... with the only missing feature then being those 2 large square port and starboard vents on the forward lower fuselage which were common to the DC8-70's (only) but did not appear on any of the 60's or other DC8's. You're probably right, I think it was a DC-8- 62 but it was painted like the picture in my post. Thanks for your responses.

United recieved their first DC-8-62 in June of 1969. United recieved the first DC-8-61 in January of 1967 and had six of them in service at the end of the year.

Thanks Nick, "United recieved the first DC-8-61 in January of 1967" Ok, that's what it was A DC-8-61 because my trip to Hawaii was in 1968. I remember that Leaving Hilo, the plane barely cleared the fence at the end of the runway taking off. Sorry about the mixup. I thought HJG did a United DC-8-71. My bad. Dee Waldron did the repaint for the United Airlines DC-8-61 1974 v4 2002 in the Attachment. In case I haven't mentioned this your Historic jetliners are excellent!

Hi Astrojet,
Even tho HJG doesn't paint fake liveries, they used to, long ago and I still have a slug of 'em in my hangar. I would never ask HJG to paint another fake or even post one, but as long as I have them, simmers are welcome to share.
I have United DC8-73 in four excellent liveries:
Friendship Mainliner Orange/Blue/White Grey/Black/Blue
The textures are DXT3 to save file space. If you would like to have, I will need an email address.
Cheers, Bob

Garry,
I know, and I would never bother HJG about making any more. You folks have provided us with some wonderful old planes to play with and I still enjoy them immensely. I must confess, I have done some ungodly things with HJG's aircraft textures to make the liveries I want, cut, paste, mix and match to make this hobby more enjoyable for me. I am very much a 'fantasy' flier and, I'm sure there are more than just me. Anyway, thanks for your wonderful contributions and please, don't mind me, I'm not going to make waves, I was just responding to a request.
Cheers, Bob ;D
