I'm getting back into simming after a long absence, and here's a question I can't seem to find an answer to.
I tend to fly HJG 707s from Pan Am and TWA, and Pan Am DC-8s.
One of the favourite places I fly into is JFK.
What I wish would happen is, when flying Pan Am into JFK, that ATC would direct me to park at the Pan Am Worldport, and when flying TWA into JFK, that it would park me at the TWA terminal.
But that doesn't happen.
I even downloaded the CalClassics 1962 Idlewild scenery, thinking maybe this would work. Nope.
Can anyone advise if there's a way to park these classic jets at their respective classic terminals?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, have you opened up the AFCAD (or ADE) for the airports and taken a look at the assigned parking? It may be an issue that there just isn't any/enough dedicated/assigned space as they are currently configured. Either version (AFCAD or ADE) can be easily edited. If your AI aircraft are parking as you wish, but you're not being assigned along with them, then one trick is to assign a "private" parking code to one or more spots. This will assure that only YOU get to park there. Hope this helps!

Ken,
I haven't messed with AFCAD much, but I guess I can go in and tinker with parking codes etc.
I don't have any classic AI installed, just the default stuff, so I don't know what would happen with AI.
I'm just surprised that the CalClassics scenery didn't take this into account. I can understand if the default scenery doesn't handle defunct airlines, but I thought the 1962 version would have been set up for that.
I'll play around with it when I have time, I guess.
Thanks for the input,
Jim

Within most AIRCRAFT.CFG files there is a data line reading ....
atc_parking_codes=
.... with reference to the 3 letter ICAO code for each airline/operator
Not all HJG aircraft CFG files may have this data .... particularly some of the early/original textures which we carried forward and over into the new/current HJG.
I don't suppose this data, if it were missing, might be the cause o Jim's problem .... might it ?

Or.....just tell Ground Control....."Thank you, I'll just park myself" and go where you want !! ;D

Hello Jim; Glad to hear that you aregetting back to a bit of simming. I have both Calclassic airports and AI traffic installed in my system. All Calclassic AI traffic is parked at their proper terminals. For example, Pan Am AI planes are parked at the Pan Am terminal which have assigned gates of the letter "C". I'm not sure what the assigned gates are for TWA. It is unfortunate that FS ATC does not recognize this, but as mentioned above you may be able to correct this by playing around with AFCAD etc. or follow SkyKing's suggestion, although that may take a bit more taxi time to locate the right terminal. For user aircraft FS ignores this data, unfortunatly, and will simply pick the first gate from the list in the AFCAD data that is of correct size.

If you have an airport diagram [or if not, make one], just take a logical route to your gate. Once you do this a couple of times, you'll know where your terminal is and can get there no problem.

Actually, its not too complicated: Your plane (and AI for that matter) WILL park where you want it to, if: (1) You have an "atc_parking_codes=XXX" in your plane's aircraft config; (2) The "xxx" matches the assigned parking code, and there is only ONE code, for the space(s) in the airport's AFCAD or ADE to which you wish to park; and (3) AI traffic isn't filling up the space(s) before you get there (ergo, the "private parking code" fix.) Airport designers will discuss all kinds of fancy and somewhat complicated AFCAD/ADE design exclusions and coding to solve the problem of taildraggers and airstair planes parking at spots with jetways and such, but, if the problem is just wanting your livery to park with others of its kind, then the above is all you need.

Thanks all for the replies. My aircraft.cfg file did have a parking code in it ('PAA' I think). I'll have to play with the AFCAD / ADE files.
I think the coolest things about JFK are the Pan Am and TWA terminals. If I land there, I want ATC to park me there!
Regards,
Jim
