I'm new to HJG and have downloaded - successfully - a 727 and also the E3D. Love the models but I do have an issue with the E3D. On loading the textures, regardless of the resolution, the fuselage and tail cycle through the correct grey to a shiny/reflective white with muted sqn markings visible. I get the same result on 2 variants. I am at a complete loss on this one, any ideas out there?

Did you turn off DX10 preview?

As I recall .... "IF" recall correctly .... such an issue (shiny textures as you have described) may exist and which affects some of the E3D textures only (Tony's RAF aircraft I believe) .... and it's an issue that, so far as I'm aware, we've not yet been able to resolve !

Dan and Mark, thanks guys! As far as DX10 is concerned I understand I should have a preview select/deselect button in the graphics settings - I don't - also, I do not have an option to change Tower location/settings on map view which I should have! And I've just reinstalled FSX Sp 1 and 2! I have trawled through some forums and yes, Mark, the textures issue did arise some time ago and the posts came to an abrupt halt..... I'm intrigued that the wing, tailplane and Radome mounts surfaces are good but the fuselage and engine cowlings are not.

The DX10 preview chekcbox will only revela itself if you have both an OS system and a graphic card that supports DX10, else you won't see it. So if you can't see it, it's because you haven't got either so no need to go down that alley then ,) I'm pretty sure that this has to do with the use of Alpha, which differs in FS9 and FSX ... You could use any equivalent bmp editor capable of either eidt or remove the alpha layer from the bmp. This would remove any shining effect, but would also result in a more matte version of the colour.... some alpha colors port quite nicely, and some don't. I'm not a painter myself, so I would have to stude the SDK more carefully in order to give a full explanation. But I'll let that up to those interested instead. Now I've pointed you in the right direction at least

That could be because those texture/features which do display fine have been saved in one particular format .... whereas those which don't display properly might have been saved in yet another completely different format.

Thanks again, guys. I have made some progress! I opened the texture files for fuselage, tail etc in ASHAMPOO Photo Commander 7 and after a little experimenting changed them to 32 bit + alpha and the result is a slightly matt, lighter grey with a pinkish tinge! The only file I cannot get to open is the Air Refuelling panel which is still white! Nonetheless, it's progress! Thanks agaqin, Jimbo

Now cracked the AR panel! recoloured it to match the fuselage. The '101' I couldn't open at all so I deleted it and replaced it with a copy of the '104' version which I then modified to show the '01' identification numbers. On the fuselage etc, Ashampoo worked quite well and indicated the textures were 24 bit; it wouldn't open the AR file - I hunted around and ended up with Paint.NET which did the job.
