I recently joined this site and thankful for the classic airliners available. Although I ran into a snag with all the DC-8 models. Whenever I try to edit and add aircraft in a .cfg file I get a total Microsoft style runaround. Usually it when I edit and close it will ask if I want to change file. I click yes and it closes just fine. But with the DC-8 files instead of closing I get a menu that says "Save As" I try to click on it and it says it's a "read only" file and have to save as a different name. I try that and it does not save as .cfg file. ANy ideas or suggestions??

Sound like the AIRCRAFT.CFG file, inside your aircraft base pack folder, has been changed to a "READ ONLY" attribute .... wheras it shouldn't be ! Right Click on this CFG file.Select "PROPERTIES".Check that the "READ ONLY" attribute appears "UNCHECKED" .... and if it is checked then "UNCHECK" immediately .... then select "APPLY" .... and then select "OK"That should then see you right in that you should, now, be able to edit your DC8 CFG file .... to your hearts content ! Which particular DC8 (state aircraft type) AIRCRAFT.CFG file are we talking about too BTW ? Mark C AKL/NZ

EXCELLENT! THANK YOU! Now I'm ready to fly. I encountered this problem with the DC8-10-20-30-61. I didn't try the other models as I assumed I would have the same problem. Thanks again!

Glad to know you're all sorted HOWEVER .... there shouldn't be any problems with any of those CFG files .... "IF" the aircraft base packs are downloaded directly from this website .... and in which case "EVERYTHING" should be perfectly editable upon being unzipped/extracted. The only means that might cause those CFG files to automatically revert to "READ ONLY" attrribute upon unzipping/extraction (that I'm aware of at least) .... is if your base packs had been transferred to your Hard Drive from a CD/DVD .... and which will result in the particular issue which you ran into. At least you now know just what to do now if you do conmfront this same issue again Once again .... and so far as I'm aware .... the files hosted on our website are all fine ! Mark C AKL/NZ
