Hi guys...
I noticed that unless you switch on the water injection for the 367-80 (and probably the early 120 series 707s), smoke doesn't really come out of the back even though you've shoved the throttles to maximum power.
Also, do you turn on the water injection only when you're already lined up on the runway? Or do you flick the switches on even while on taxi?

Water injection is only available for a few minutes, and I believe you shouldn't turn it on until you've got the engines spooled up to takeoff power. Hold brakes, apply takeoff power, hit the water injection, then release the brakes.
With water injection on, you'll get the thick, sooty black smoke. After water injection is off, I think there should still be smoke but it will be much more subtle and will only appear at high throttle settings.
I haven't flown the 367-80 though, only the 120s, so I'm not sure if it behaves differently with regard to the smoke effects without water injection on.
I do enjoy the smoke! I like flying the early water-injected models, as they're also more challenging to fly with thier lower power-to-weight ratios.
Regards,
Jim

That's correct .... and .... how it's all intended to work .... in that these heavy smoke effects simulate what happens during the Water Methanol burn-off which was used augment engine thrust of very early turbojet engines by around 10-12 % more .... I think it was .... used during T/O only ! Within our simulation .... there's a direct relationship between the Water Injection and EGT gauges and the heavy smoke effects .... meaning those heavy smoke effects (in fact all of our smoke effects) will ony work if you're using the HJG/CARTY B367-80 panel .... in your case. The basic T/O procedure for this aircraft is to line-up with the RWY center-line. Lock the brakes "ON". Advance the power levers to "MAX THRUST" .... and upon acquiring that then activate all 4 Water Injection switches. As soon as all 4 Water Injection lamps have illuminated (and you'll see the engine thrust indications rise slightly more too) .... then release the brakes .... and go like hell ! The fireworks (heavy moke effects) will last approximately 3 minutes "only" .... and which is intentional and more-or-less accurately reflects the duration of Water Methanol augmented thrust in the (old) real world. Unfortunately this will then leave you with absolutely no smoke effects at all later .... after the heavy smoke system is exhausted, but, we're limited in that it's not possible to apply (make function) 2 sets of different smoke effects with the same aircraft .... due to gauge programming I suspect. This all applies to B367-80, B707-120, B707-138, C135-A, DC8 SHIP ONE 1959, and DC8-10 .... "ONLY" .... and again you must be using HJG supplied panels for these effects to work properly. Here's what you should be seeing .... in respect of our "heavy smoke effects" featured aircraft anyway .... B367-80 Heavy Smoke EffectsC135-A/KC135-A Heavy Smoke EffectsB707-120 Heavy Smoke EffectsB707-138 Heavy Smoke EffectsB707-120 (partially upgradedwith tall tail and ventral fin) Heavy Smoke EffectsDC8 SHIP ONE 1959 Heavy Smoke EffectsDC8-10 Heavy Smoke EffectsSmoke effects with all other so featured HJG aircraft are intended to work "AUTOMATICALLY", but, during the high engine thrust/engine RPM regime only .... and again .... provided you're using HJG suppliedpanels only. Failing that (i.e. not using HJG panels) then these smoke affects will need to be activated/deactivated manually using keyboard command "I" Mark C AKL/NZ

You can also turn on the water injection using the keyboard - press SHIFT + F4.

I am indeed using the panel supplied by HJG for the 367-80 and yes, I get the same heavy black smoke just like in the pictures posted here.
Initially, I thought that I must've installed the aircraft/panel incorrectly but since you guys clarified that two smoke effects can't be programmed to work at the same time, I guess that I have followed everything in the README files correctly.
And yes, I do love smoke on jets!
