Hello All... I've been really enjoying your AC and all has been going well. I recently had to do a 're-build' of my PC and then FSX. One of my first tasks was to re-install my HJG AC. Missed them! All was well with the B707. However, when I tried to re-install my B727-200 Adv from the Base File and followed the instructions (actually OK at this installing business now I got problems. Got the texture, got the Panel. Used the latest B727-200 Adv. (P&W JT8D-17) & Core Panels (unzipped Sound Folder Contents and Gauge Folder Contents and used the latest version) I Used the suggested Sound Files: (P&W JT8D-17-Late) Went for a spin, and got this horrendous loud 'ticking noise' Now, it could be that I've not flicked a switch or something, if so Sorry. What makes me think that this isn't the case, is that when I press Esc/end Flight, the ticking continues up until the 'Select AC' screen comes up. I also used the sound settings advised by the author. There's also a 'grating of metal' sound too. It might be part and parcel of the otherwise brilliant package. Then went to try my other B727 (B727-100 Late) Same thing. Please has anyone got any suggestions. All other AC are fine and all other 'sounds' seem OK ..Call -outs etc. Hope I've explained this OK. All help would be appreciated. Despite the noise. The AC performs brilliantly..Thanks again for all your hard work there BTW. Best Wishes ZA

There's nothing inside any of the AEROMUSICA B727 soundpacks that might account for this. There are 2 types of B727 sounds that might account for what you're describing though .... and both of these are associated with the panel sounds only One is the 400HZ sound .... and .... the other is all 3 of the TRIM sounds .... each of which exhibit, what you might describe as, a "ticking" or a "grating of metal" sound. The 400HZ sound (filename = rp727_2_400hz), intentionally, remains constantly running .... simulating avionics and gyros running in the background. It's quite a gentle panel sound .... unless you have the flight deck SOUND slider set "way too high" .... and will probably hardly be audible once both engine sounds and all of the environmental audio factors begin to take full effect. On some systems too .... this particular sound may activate, automatically, from the MSFS Aircraft Menu whenever any B727 aircraft, using an HJG/PROBST B727 panel, is selected. It's probably more important to realize that this particular sound, including its raw volume too (which isn't loud), was recorded, by Richard PROBST himself, aboard a B727 aircraft .... so it's quite accurate/authentic. The 3 TRIM sounds (filenames = rp727_2_trim_down, rp727_2_trim_short, rp727_2_trim_up) will activate only whenever TRIM is selected "manually". These panel sounds are louder though their raw volume is fine and which is, again, not out of the ordinary either .... unless you have the flight deck SOUND slider set "way too high". These sounds do not/should not run constantly though .... unless you end up with a runaway or stuck TRIM, which I've never heard of, yet, in FS and in regard to any of these B727 panels. These sounds are, quite authentic too, again being recorded from a B727 aircraft by Richard PROBST himself. Of course I can't hear the level of what you apparently report being excessive volume, but, using our recommended AEROMUSICA B727 soundpack Sound Slider settings everything should be running fine. Although the stated AEROMUSICA Sound Slider recommendations (ENGINES and ENVIRONMENT) have no direct relationship with the raw volume of the panel related sounds, these settings will proportionately offset the volumes of other the Sound Slider options. I use the following Sound Slider levels in FS9 and can only report very satisfactory and authentic playback results. I want you to set these same Sound Slider values yourself .... and see how you go .... ENGINES = 70 flight deck = 30 ENVIRONMENT = 85 NAVIGATION = 10 LESSONS / FLIGHTS = intentionally "NOT SELECTED" in my case ! AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL = intentionally "NOT SELECTED" in my case !Note in particular that my own flight deck Sound Slider value .... which isn't stated among AEROMUSICA recommendations .... is quite low in comparison with the rest. If you're using higher values than mine, for this particular option, then that "might" account for what you describe as being excessive volume with what is quite definitely panel related WAV. Hope that helps you out ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Again Mark. Did as you suggested. I've altered the settings as advised. FSX is slightly different. Attached is a PDF showing the settings and I got them as close as your settings as possible I can report that the 'grating sound' is now fine..so thanks for that. I quite like it actually. The ticking noise however is still there. Turned the 'cockpit' (your equiv. to 'Flight Deck') down to = 30 ..then down to = 10. I also adjusted the other settings to mirror yours. Tested the AC both on the ground and in flight. Results: Perhaps not as loud in flight, but still louder than I can recall in the past before the re-install. Also still very evident on the ground. Also checked the 'rp' files you mentioned. (Helpful advice BTW) They seemed in order. I'm wondering if it's worth taking the original Core Panels out and the latest panel designated to this AC out and doing another DL and install. The Q then is..do I have to delete all of the original sound files in the FSX 'Sound' Folder for this panel? I know these panel sounds are very authentic and are of the highest quality. This is just a 'glitch' (I hope) The other option is of course to forget the 'tick' and concentrate on landing the thing. Thanks for your time Re: this Best Wishes ZA

Those sound slider setting options I recommended are for FS9/FS2004 only.
These setting vary with each vintage of FS and it's highly likely that FSX requires completely different settings/levels for optimum playback quality. I do know that the Sound Engine for FSX is different from that of FS9/FS2004.
Personally .... I advise you not to remove anything. Uninstalling/reinstalling simply isn't going to change anything .... I feel.
Additionally .... if you start removing certain WAV samples .... then you're only going to end up denying yourself an important slice of reality and which would be quite unfortunate. As I mentioned above .... "ALL" of the panel WAV data was recorded directly from a B727 aircraft by Richard PROBST. What is heard in that panel, per the WAV provided, is indeed what one hears aboard a B727 aircraft flightdeck .... albeit one of later vintage perhaps.
The AVIONICS sounds, on the ground, will be more audible .... of course .... because they're not then offset by other parameters such as engines and environmental factors. Once again .... what's heard there is "intentional".
I think all you should be looking at doing is experimenting with those sound slider positions in FSX .... simply to find the audio balance that's best for both you and your own equipment. As I mention within all AEROMUSICA soundpack installation instructions ....
"Audio quality will vary between systems and devices. Sound settings are a matter of personal preference. Experiment with the above recommended settings first then adjust to your particular preference if necessary"
Personally I'd start experimenting by further reducing the flight deck sound slider .... OR .... you might want to try increasing either the ENVIRONMENT or ENGINE sound sliders, or both. These sound sliders control not so much the raw volumes of what you hear, but rather, they control the proportion of what you hear in respect of 1 feature over the other.
In respect of FS9/FS2004 I can state as follows ....
- The ENGINES slider .... manipulates the proportion of engine sound that is audible !
- The ENVIRONMENT slider .... manipulates the proportion of sound that is audible in relation to ground, roll, wind , and touch down !
- The flight deck slider .... manipulates the proportion of sound that is audible in relation to flaps, gear, trim, and most other mechanical/avionics and panel warning sounds !
Whilst knowing FSX comprises of a different Sound Engine I don't know how much difference this imposes.
I'm satisfied this is a panel/sound issue .... if not a little misunderstanding on your part perhaps. Its certainly not an AEROMUSICA soundpack issue .... because the identified WAV files aren't part of the 3 B727 soundpacks.
Again .... I think your best approach to the issue you report is simply to experiment, yourself, with those FSX sound slider positions in order to achieve personal satisfaction.

HI Mark.. Again, thanks for a very comprehensive reply. I realise that there is nothing amiss with the Panel sounds, as I've experienced their quality before. I will take your advice and "Experiment" with the various sliders to see what I can come up with. Turning up certain sliders such as Environment and Engine noises seems to make sense. "Audio quality will vary between systems and devices. Sound settings are a matter of personal preference. Experiment with the above recommended settings first then adjust to your particular preference if necessary" The above advice is good advice. So I'll do some more 'messing' to get it right. Thanks for your support. At least it's not anything major. Best Wishes ZA Read more: tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=boeing&action=display&thread=4027#ixzz1D5NpEvaD

Thank you for that "ZAPILOT" .... and for your co-operation too I too flew our B727 panels yesterday .... both to re-evaluate what you report and my own advice regarding it .... as I normally always dio in these cases. I find that everything is "quite normal" .... and performing "precisely as it's expected/intended to perform" One of the things we occasionally run into here is that some folk do not to realise that airliner flightdecks are not as quiet they seem to think. All of those avionics systems require a steady source of energy to drive them .... both on the ground and in the air .... and this does make a noise (be it a constant "whine, or "humm", or "whatever") .... as does the airconditioning system too. Most of our panels feature this type of ambiance built into them .... per panel gauges/sounds .... additionally supported by AEROMUSICA soundpacks also. Generally speaking .... what we/HJG provide, in respoect of this audio ambiance, is more-or-less (if not precisely .... depending upon where we source our WAV from) what one can expect to witness on the flightdeck of these aircraft. It's quite a different sound/world up there than most folk appreciate from the perspective of any airliner PAX cabin. Mark C AKL/NZ
