YES .... there were 2 KIWI´s. Both were airlines .... and both were completely unrelated as "THE GETTER" implies. The first was this particular US operation .... as introduced "here" by "THE GETTER". And at around the same time there was this other New Zeland based KIWI airline .... from 1995 .... and known as "KIWI TRAVEL INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES" .... or .... "KIWI INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES" for short. Our operation (KIWI INTL) leased the following ex-EASTERN B727-200 ADVC before moving on to B757-200 (leaseed form AIR 2000 inh the UK), B737-300 (leased from an Icelandic operator, and A320-200 (leased from a Singapore based leasing operation) aircraft .... www.airliners.net/photo/Kiwi-Air-International/Boeing-727-225-Adv/0116965/L/www.airliners.net/photo/Kiwi-Air-International/Boeing-727-225-Adv/0115901/L/So .... there´s 2 potential subjects. Maybe 2 birds/KIWI´s could be killed with "the one stone" ;D .... if any of our painters are willing The NZ based KIWI INTL operation specialised in trans-Tasman air travel to Sydney, Australia .... from previously unconnected NZ provincial cities like Hamilton, and later Palmerston North .... something our national flag carrier (AIR NEW ZEALAND) had been reluctant to do all-along .... until KWI INTL proved there was money to be made doing it .... and at which point AIR NZ then promptly established a counter challenge in the form of FREEDOM AIR INTERNATIONAL under the paper-thin disguise of its own subsidiary MOUNT COOK AIRLINES (NZ´rs arent fools) amid public outcries of their "blatant plagiarism of the KIWI INTL product. Sadly .... the NZ based KIWI INTL AIRLINES collapsed during 1997/98. AIR NZ then wound-up (voluntarily) it´s own FREEDOM AIR INTL operation just a few years ago .... having then achieved what it had essentially set out to do all-along .... "screw any competition". I was undertaking aircraft photography for KIWI INTL durting their brief operational years .... from the very begining and until the very end .... so .... I got to know both the airline and it´s management (including Ewan WILSON) quite well. It was great what they/KIWI INTL did for New Zealand .... and the New Zealand travelling public and which represented the first real "boot up the bum" AIR NEW ZEALAND ever got .... before the introduction of ANSETT NEW ZEALAND, QANTAS NEW ZEALAND, PACIFIC BLUE/VIRGIN, and JETSTAR on the New Zealand scene. The majority of us were sad to see KIWI INTL get "squashed" the way it did and the national carrier once again assume the manopoly .... BUT .... that´s "business" I guess .... and however unfortunate it might all seem As "THE GETTER" has presented here within this thread .... there are a number of interesting variatiosn of livery associated with the US based (and unrelated) KIWI operation.
