AH YES !
I'd forgotten about LAKER 2 .... and the B727´s .... which, if I recall correctly, also shared company wirth a DC10 too.
There´s also a couple of variations of the original LAKER and LAKER CARIBBEAN livery we need fot both the B707-138B and B707-320B as well.
Ther´s a very interesting book about Sir Freddie LAKER .... entitled "FLY ME - I'M FREDDIE" .... recommended rerading !

YEAH .... If I remember correctly .... Freddier LAKER (before he became "SIR FREDDIE") was involved in the establishment of BAHAMAS AIRWAYS with the BAC ONE-ELEVEN. LAKER AIRWAYS (his first major airline) had both a UK, and a Bahamas/Caribbean base .... operating B707-138B and B707-320B ADVC. LAKER´s greatest triumph though was in getting his "FRILL FREE" LAKER SKTRAIN service up and running across the Atlantic .... between the UK and USA .... using DC10-10, DC10-30 (I think), and later A300B on other routes too .... and against all manner of political/commercial odds/manipulation imposed by the UK´s primary carrier aimed at stopping him .... and which eventually did bring his SKY TRAIN service "down" later. My understanding is that the courts eventually awarded in favour of Sir Freddie, but, it was, by then, "TOO LATE" .... his LAKER SKYTRAIN service was "FINISHED" !!!! It was around the late 1990´s (maybe earlier) when LAKER appeared on the airways again .... and once again in the Bahamas .... using B727 and DC10 .... though his interntions were to use the Dc10´s a far abraod as New Zealand, because I remember being circulated an an NZCAA notice at the time, signalling LAKER´s intention to service AKL with DC10´s .... but .... which didn´t come to fruition Garry RUSSELL .... might be able to elaborate more definitively in some of the finer points relating to all of this .... if he sticks hi head in later Mark C BOG/CO

Mark, as far as I can tell, you've got the facts pretty much right. Basically, the UK courts found that British Airways and the British Airport Authority were conspiring to keep Laker Airways from getting fair consideration for slots at Heathrow and Gatwick and thus awarded him a hefty sum in compensation that only allowed him to pay off his debts and help out some of those employees whom were let go when Skytrain shutdown. It also led to the reoganization of BAA and new civil airline regulations being put in place in the UK that had existed in the US for years to try and curb just that kind of business practice. Not that the US regulations have been 100% effective since American Airlines/AMR have violated them on several occasions and made C.R. Smith roll in his grave at a prodigious rate for a few decades now.

Thanks all for interesting education!! It seems to me that Freddie Laker was born too early and way ahead of his time!!! If he had his ideas years later, he would have survived!!
Would anybody agree?

"POSSIBLY" .... only I think it´s fair to say that Sir Freddy LAKER proved/taught the airline industry that "FRILL FREE" type air service operations could succeed (if given the chance) .... but .... today, and for that prime reason, he´d probably have more competition (if not just as much corporate politics, and corruption) to contend with because more carriers around the world are now doing what he first did .... having learned from his example of the 1970´s and 80´s .... and .... it´s just a fact of "BUSINESS" that non-alligned carriers will try to screw each other out of business. The airline industry is probably more difficult now than it ever was back in those fledgling LAKER SKY TRAIN days .... meaning .... it´s much tougher to survive now than ever before even if one is a discount or "FRILL FREE" service provider.

We generally let our FS artists tackle whatever "appeals" to them .... often on the basis of reference imagery like that which is being posted here at present .... BUT .... we never generally prompt/force them otherwise.
