???My Vista OS would not boot up last week, had to format the hard drive and re-install everything. Had most things backed up on a stand alone hard drive. Loaded FSX SP1 & 2, and copied over the add on aircraft from the hard drive along with the Effects files. Now the smoke and wing tip vortices's are black and pixels are square. Using a 4 month old NVIDIA GeForce 9500GTX GPU. I'm at a loss. Could it be the GPU going bad? Any suggestions would be most helpful. Denny H

I kind of thought so. I forgot to mention the nav lights, strobes and beacons are at times non existent, or really dim. Similar to my......................I'm disgusted with the new card deal.

Well fellow simmers, after much thought process and elimination I decided to run FSX off of my stand alone hard drive. I had copied it from the C: drive in Feb. It ran just perfect, so since smoke, lights, vortices etc are from "effects" files, I copied that file from my stand alone Hard drive to the C: drive installation, and guess what? It works perfectly. So for the present I don't need a new card or computer for that matter. But one never knows with this stuff.

11/2/2011 - NOTE ON THIS ISSUE : I recently had the same exact thing happen with my FSX Gold edition - on a Brand New Computer, I checked everything,,, asked around on forum boards , got all kinds of , well, some kind of answers, heres what I did to FIX the problem !! I just "Inserted" my FSX Discs ( all 3), the 1st one Disc #1, will show a Screen asking you if you want to uninstall or "REPAIR" your flight Sim, CLICK REPAIR,,, and go thru the process, it will take you thru all 3 Discs, make sure you use all 3 discs too, as it checks itself and the files in your sim/hard drive for any corrupted files and over writes them back to default IF it finds a badd file. I had blocky/square smoke effects and square lights and blocky / square water when landing on water,,,, but NOT since I fixed it by re-inserting the FSX Discs,,,, NOTICE I did NOT un-install anything , just re-inserted the FSX Discs and went theu the FIX IT process !!!
