On the subject of the COMET content of Dave's posting above ..... Both RCAF COMET 1A .... and RAF COMET 2 (CR) .... are also both available too .... RCAF COMET 1ARAF COMET 2 (C2).... by Jens B.KRISTENSEN, per his new/improved "V2" COMET 1/2 package (separate files for both FS2004, and FSX) which was re-released during late DECEMBER of last year/2010. The COMET 2 was approximately 3FT longer than COMET 1/1A series aircraft and was the first of the series to be powered by RR AVON turbojet engines. It first flew during 1953. BOAC operated these aircraft for route proving only .... prior to their planned introduction to service as a COMET 1/1A replacement, but, the 1954 disasters changed all of this. When first produced, the COMET 2 .... like its COMET 1/1A predecessors .... featured the same "square-ish cabin window appetures. These were modified to oval appetures .... among other structural reinforcemenmnts .... and entered RAF service under various COMET 2 (C2) designations where they remained in service until 1967. The 2 original RCAF COMET 1A aircraft were also similarly modified (including upgraded powerplants too) after the 1954 disasters and returned to RCAF service as COMET 1XB aircraft during 1957 and remained in service there until 1964. The JBK COMET 1/2 pakage featrures the following 2D and VC panels too .... JBK COMET 1/2 2D PANELJBK COMET 1/2 VC PANEL.... along with a DH GHOST soundpack by Mike HAMBLY .... extensively modidified by both Benoit PLAMONDON & mself - AEROMUSICA. Benoit & myself have also produced our own new RR AVON (no reverse) soundpack too (COMET 1, -1A, -2, and -3 aircraft were not fitted with thrust reversers), but, we've not ever released it .... to date ! AH .... ta hell with it .... ;D Here's the rest of the JBK COMET 1/2 package too .... that portion of it not already presented by me above .... COMET 1
BOAC 1952 COMET 1A AIR FRANCE 1953CANADIAN PACIFIC AIRLINES 1953UNION AEROMARITIME DE TRTANSPORT 1953 COMET 2 BOAC 1954Someone else also produced the following classic/historic COMET 1 texture for the original JBK V1 COMET 1/2 package .... but .... which also seems to work fine with the new/improved JBK V2 COMET 1/2 package as well, but, I cannot remember who actually produced this other/"separate" add-on texture file .... BOAC/SOUTH AFRICAN AIRLINES 1954The JBK COMET 1/2 for FS2004, and FSx (again separate packages) is quite a nice package It's not as detailed as David MALTBY's COMET models and VC panel .... BUT .... it's still a very nice piece of freeware all the same representing another great classic/historic aircraft. I'm certainly quite content with it anyway ! Mark C AKL/NZ

Nice 'formation' screenshots with two classic freeware birds (Comet 4C from David Maltby and Learjet 35 from Mike Stone [Mike Stone is back to the FS-community: http://www.pmstone.com])
Also nice and educational posts about the early Comets from Jens Kristensen.

You'll have a job ! ;D There's "NOTHING" out there, so far, that's suitable .... and the only file that's currenntly available out there is far from authentic/accurate. That's largely because not much audio material (even audio/visual) exists today .... "of suitable/useable reference quality". That which is available is not necessarily authentic. I've actually seen RR TYNE CL44 engine sounds used with classic BRITANNIA video from the very ealy 1960's .... which is "ALL WRONG" ;D The BRISTOL PROTEUS turboprop engine had a "very unique" tone .... quite unlike that of any other turboprop engine I've ever heard, or ever heard good recordings of. This's something Garry RUSSELL and myself have been discussing quite a bit recently. Mark C AKL/NZ

Just coming back to the COMET .... "yet again" .... since I forgot to add this to the above presentation when I posted last night .... DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT COMPANY COMET PROTOTYPEThis isn't the JBK model, but rather, it's an earlier one produced for FS2002 .... which did port over to FS2004, but, with some minor issues (implicating landing lights, engine intakes, window transparencies, and external ground illumination from landing lights). Apart from these minor compatibility issues, from my own personal experience, it still flew well in FS2004 and I do still have it installed today. This earlier model is by Erick WRIGHT .... and was only available from his own private website.
Unfortunately I no longer have that website address today.Mark C AKL/NZ

The thing is though .... until a "quality" custom BRITANNIA/Proteus Turboprop sound is eventually made for FS .... there just "IS NOT" anything suitable out there .... that i'm aware of.

Mark C AKL/NZ Ok the links above BOAC 1950's one of them the other is a B P roteus ship turbine test run the first one is BOAC which is a 3 part series 2 of 3 and 3 of 3 have some decent clips of Brit taxi and takeoff with no dubbed in music or voice just engine sound. Very short but captures the essence of the sound. Thanks for images of early Comet versions the Comet 4C must have also have been extended in length . So gives it more sleekness. Think I favor the 4C Comet over the early Versions. Mexicana XA-NAR was under renov at Washington State Museum of Flight to bring it back into flying condition last time I chkd. Not sure why they left Concorde out in the Elements exposed to the weather though. Dave/ KSAC
