A few weeks ago I "discovered" HJG and downloaded many of my favorite classic jetliners. I've installed many of the DC-8's (as well as most of the other models) and am now ready to work on the L-1011's.
I have the "22b" panels for the L-1011-1 and L-1011-50. Can anyone tell me which of the 22B panels I use (STD or TAPE) in each of the aircraft I have.
The L-1011-1 textures I have are as follows: Aer Lingus 1997 Delta early 1974 Eastern 1973
The L-1011-50 textures I have are as follows: Northeast Bolivian 2003 Aer Lingus 1989 TWA 1985 TWA 1978
Again...which of these birds gets the standard gauges and which get the tapes?

Thanks so much for putting me on top of all this info! As I am mostly a "just fly 'em" simmer, it will be nice to actually learn how to fly one of these jetliners. HJG rocks!

Looking at photos on Airliners.net suggests that Delta used standard gauges and TWA used tape gauges, but there are no photos for the other airlines mentioned.

Most used standard round gauges, I seem to remember that the tape was specially made for Eastern and perhaps TWA, but was an open option to all that wanted them, so both version are equally authentic to use... Use whichever you find fit you the most.

That's correct .... most airlines did select/prefer the round Analog engine gauges/instruments. Some airlines which originally selected the Tape instrument standard "may" have converted to round analogue type gauges much later on .... I've seen this happen on the B747-200B at least. To simply this .... You should be using the RR RB211-22B panels with all TRISTAR versions from L1011 SHIP ONE (1970) to the L1011 150 .... and be using the RR RB211-524 panels for the remaining L1011-200 and L1011-250 versions only. For each of these 2 basic engine type/aircraft groups you then have a choice of either Tape or Analogue engine gauges .... both of which work superbly well. All you "MUST" do .... for the sake of authentic performances .... is ensure that you use RR RB11-22B panels with RR RB211-22B designated aircraft base packs .... and the same again in respect of RR RB211-524 panels and aircraft base packs too. This "NECESSITY" .... as outlined within my forum service notes .... is "ESSENTIAL" because of the panel/gauges/FDE relationship which exists with these (and most of our other) panels. Mating the wrong panel version with the wrong aircraft base pack/FDE version "WILL" affect aircraft performances in relation to panel/gauge indications. Try a bit of variation among your aircraft/textures within the same aircraft base pack. You can, if you wish, have 2 separate panel folders inside the same aircraft base pack folder .... each with CFG data pointing at the Tape and Analogue panels respectively. In this case all you've got to do is name the default Panel folders accordingly .... and then enter that same panel designation to the PANEL= data line of your AIRCRAFT.CFG. That's precisely what I do (in FS2004) .... and it works marvelously. I don't belive FSX should be any different in this respect ! Mark C AKL/NZ
