Hello all. Firstly I would like to say I understand that HJG models are not really supposed to be used as AI aircraft, (but they do an admirable job!) but I am not in a position to use many AI Models, due to many liveries not being available. I am in the process of setting up a "Period" FSX, which will feature a lot of magnificent HJG Aircraft, along with other models. I am setting up Manchester 1970, I eventually plan to make a short movie, and will post some screenies of HJG models when its all set up. I am currently working on ai sounds and have the RR Conways finished for the HJG early 707 as AI sounds. In my quest to make it look as realistic as possible, My question was to the HJG modelers regarding the NAV lights on the 707/DC-8 etc. I understand that the light effect is hard coded in to the models wings. Is this lighting effect available from within FSX, such as an airport light effect/runway light/Halo texture? My second question was regarding HJG smokers and FSX. I have found a nice effect for the aircraft, but was wondering if the coding for an FSX smoke effect is different to the same effect in FS9. I notice that the co-ordinates are reversed in the Light.* sections. The only effect I have not managed to successfully create is the "reverser spray" (Soaked runways are common in Manchester, ). I can get it to work nicely on the HJG Models as flyables, but not when they are used as AI. Thanks for any help or information to help me with my project. Chris Morgan, Perth, Western Australia

"YES" .... the lighting on the HJG B707/B720/C135 TYPE, CV880, CV990, DC8 and DC9 aircraft "IS" hard coded into these models. I think the same also applies in regard to the VL B727's, AFG CARAVELLE's, and the ARNZ BAe 146 aircraft which we host here too .... but .... FYI the L1011 TRISTAR lighting (wingtips at least) is "NOT" hardcoded into this model. This much I can confirm, but, I'm not certain regarding FSX implications.
In regard to smoke effects .... "YES" .... the FSX co-ordinated for these effects are different from those of FS9. The aircraft base backs for each of our smokers (B707/720/C135 TYPE, B727, CV880, CV990, and DC8) do feature an FSX specific CFG with the cordinates for these effects already incorporated into them. The CARAVELLE feature smoke effects too, but, as these are "technically" FS9 aircraft (I have heard these run OK inh FSX though) their base packs contain FS9 smoke co-ordinates only.
Hopefully Dan will/can assist you in regard to anything I can't cover.

Hey thanks for your reply Mark. yes I was aware of all of the above, I guess my question is what light effect is used for the red and green nav lights on HJG Aircraft. I would assume it will be a global one, but would like to see if I can make it MUCH smaller and much less brighter, as it seems the only thing that "Stands out" on these excellent models (Other non HJG models suffer it as well) If indeed it is a "Global effect" then thats OK as well. At the moment I am only working on daytime textures and effects, so if for example the effect is tied to say runway lights, it wont be of concern, as long as the models look OK (DC-8 beacon top, imo could do with another type/smaller light effect)

I honestly couldn't tell you what particular effect was employed
Only our Dee WALDRON (the HJG DC8 modeller) could tell you.
It think it probably will be a global effect though .... I'm pretty sure of that.
Hopefully Dee might comment later once he spot this thread.
