Hello all, First, a huge thanks to Dan, Tony, and all the good folks here - been digging into a huge pile of wonderful aircraft and liveries that has been very enjoyable and educational. I found a rare photo (probably not to you experts!) of a Caravelle III in the later (as in later than the normal red/white/metal) scheme, as shown here: www.airliner-pics.com/caravelle/cn038.htm - roughly half way down the page. Only image I've seen of it, not likely a scheme it wore much ... but quite pretty with the blue. Knowing plates are likely full to overflowing with projects, and if it's no one's cup of tea, I understand - but I'd be much obliged if someone painted this one. Again, thanks for all the great planes and models! Daniel

You "MAY" be in luck .... because as it so happens .... Camilo and myself are attending to a few CARAVELLE projects (among others too) at the moment .... BUT .... absolutely no promises.
It certainly is a non-standard variation of SWISSAIR livery .... and one I didn´t no about.
Maybe an experimental scheme which was never proceeded with.

Just been doing a bit of quick research .... fortunatenately I brought my CARAVELLE book (SUD EST CARAVELLE by A.ARANE) with me to Colombia ....
This odd livery (the stripe is definitely that of CATAIR) may be evidenced by SWISSAIR´s lease of HB-ICX to CATAIR during March 1971 .... where it eventually migrated to became F-BSRD and that airlines very first CARAVELLE.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I wondered if it wasn't a Swissair/CATAIR paint "in transition" - but since the Swissair was painted on the white ... no idea. Normally I prefer the purist red/white/metal schemes of the 60s/70s, but this one really caught my eye. Looking forward to anything that comes along in the Caravelle vein. I recall dying to wait for these models to arrive back in the AFG days, and then thoroughly enjoying them in FS9. And (though I should probably say this very quietly ) - have been enjoying them equally in FSX. They are just gorgeous - and will continue to be enjoyed for a long while yet. Cheers, DL

Actually .... I hate to be a sudden bearer of bad news or even appear keen to do an abrupt about-turn on this particular subject, but, on the basis of further "quick research" .... I, now, very much doubt this particular aircraft ever actually flew, commercially, in such a hybrid SWISSAIR/CATAIR livery. I could be wrong, of course, but, all evidence suggests (unless someone can produce evidence to the contrary) this aircraft was operated by CATAIR in the following definitive scheme, only, between 1971 and 1973 .... www.airlinefan.com/airline-photos/2486155/Catair/Sud-Aviation/SE-210-Caravelle/F-BRSD/I suspect the hybrid SWISSAIR/CATAIR photo was probably taken when the aircraft was being prepared/reconditioned for CATAIR service .... and .... if that, indeed, turns ouit to be the case .... then there´s, probably, not point in representing it here. Bummer - it was a splendid livery.
Thanks all the same, though!

I quite liked it too, but, not to worry .... because there´s plenty of other equally nice, and historic, liveries for each of the CARAVELLE versions we, so far, represent. Seeing more of these .... "HERE" .... is really just a matter of time, staff availability between other planned projects, and suitable resources/reference material too.

Indeed - all good Mark. Saw a great video on YT the other day that featured a Gabon Express Caravelle - not one we have modelled here (11R) - but it just reminded me of how ubiquitous this aircraft was, in the case of Gabon Express, until just a few years ago! www.youtube.com/watch?v=EypHoeMjUks Cheers, Daniel

Unfortunately .... we don´t, yet, have an 11R model in order to be able to represent any liveries for that particular CARAVELLE version.
Same applies too in respect of the CARAVELLE 10B and SUPER 12 versions.
So far we only represent 1/1A, 3, 6N, 6R, and 10B1/10R CARAVELLE versions.

My guessing is that it was overhauled for service with Catair and the cheat line was painted. Possibly for insurance reasons, awaiting the official French handover/registration it retained the Swissair titles, and the Swiss reg had not been cancelled... being Swiss registered the tail had to be painted as a Swiss flag.
When the handover took place it would be an overnight job to change the reg, titles and respray the tail white as the more complex cheatline was already done.
They could of course have used stickers but maybe there was no point as everything was fitting together nicely as it was and there was not point in changing the Swiss identity at that time....even clearing the painshop for somethimng else in the meantime might have been a factor.
So it is possible it never flew like that...or maybe made one brief acceptance flight.
It never went back into the Swiss fleet, being sold on in China so was probably already withdrawn from the active Swissair fleet and not likely to have been flying any service flights by then.
TBH it is one of those hydrid schemes that works very well.

Thanks Gary - times like this I wish I had a good paint programme and skills ... Appreciate the history - at least as you understand it. Seems pretty reasonable to me ... Daniel
