I'm just getting back into flight sim.
Can both the 727 and the DC9 use the altitude hold selection that I set? Example, if I want to cruise at 20,000ft can I select that.

Using each of our B727 panels ....A "target altitude value" can be dialed up/selected on these panels .... BUT .... the actual "altitude capture" must still be performed manually by flicking "ON" the AP ALT HLD switch as the ALTIMETER needles intersect the precise target altitude value. There is no automatic altitude capture function built into any of these panels. The earlier type of B727 AP is what is represented in each of these B727 panels. When a target altitide value is set/selected .... it should be interpreted as "a reminder" (only) as to what particular altitude has been actually been targeted or the aircraft cleared to. An ALTITUDE ALERT tone will activate, automatically, at approximately 700 FT prior to passing the selected target altitude value .... and again .... within approximately 500 FT of passing the selected target altitude value. In order to avoid writing at length .... here´s a copy an paste from the AUTOPILOT section of our forum based/online B727 panel manual .... Almost of everything one needs to know about our PROBST/CARTY B727 panels is available per my "B727 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES" posting .... which is located on the "ABOUT HJG AIRCRAFT" forum page, or, per the following link .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hjgaircraftlistings&action=display&thread=2382Using each of our DC9 panels ....Again ..... a "target altitude value" can be dialed up/selected on these panels too .... BUT .... there are actually 2 altitude capture options available. The first option allows for "altitude captures" to be performed "MANUALLY" by, once again, flicking "ON" the AP ALT HLD switch as the ALTIMETER needles intersect the precise target altitude value. An ALTITUDE ALERT tone will activate, automatically, at approximately 700 FT prior to passing the selected target altitude value .... and again .... within approximately 500 FT of passing the selected target altitude value. Unlike the B727 .... each of these DC9 panels also has an "AUTOMATIC" altitude capature mode .... which requires the target altitude value first being set .... on the AP itself .... and the the appropriate AP mode switches then activated in order to fascilitate the altitude capture. In this case the Main Panel altitude selecter should still be set as a reminder. Once more .... and in order to avoid writing at further length .... here´s a copy an paste from the AUTOPILOT section of our forum based/online DC9 panel manual .... Almost everything one needs to know about our HILMERBY/CARTY DC9 panels is available per my "DC9 PANEL INSTALLATION & HANDLING NOTES" posting .... which is located on the "DOUGLAS AIRCRAFT SUPPORT" forum page, or, per the following link .... tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=3435"IF" one is new to these simulations then a good, long, thorough read of these notes/manuals is "ESSENTIAL" in order to be able to understand, use, and get the best enjoyment possible. FINALLY .... Using either panel/simulation .... to aid smooth altitude captures the ROC/ROD should always be "reduced" to no more than 1000 FPM within 1000 FT of any selected target altitude .... then to 500 FPM with 500 FT of any selected target altitude .... and then to 200 FPM within 200 FT of any selected target altitude .... as stated within manuals for these simulations. It´s possinbly needless to say this .... BUT .... the lower the ROC/ROD then the smoother the altitude capture. Mark C BOG/CO
