ANSETT AUSTRAAAAAAAAAALYA .... a bloody good airline in it's day, but one, that throughout the 1960's and 70's, was probably disadvasntaged/supressed from doing what it really wanted/needed to be able to do, by the limitations of Australia's, then, 2 airline policy over major domestic air routes within that country .... essentially TAA and ANSETT ANA situation with both airlines operating the same aircraft types, over the same routes, and according to the same scheduling etc too It's a major Australian carrier .... so .... there must be something quality-wise in terms of AI traffic available out there somewhere .... surely. Searching just "ANSETT" .... or .... "ANSETT AUSTRALIA" .... on FS.COM or AVSIM.COM must turn up something in the form of AI .... but .... sifting through the scores of potential targets that mightthen be hilited by such a search could, possibly, become quite a laborious task .... as these would likely relate both AI and non-AI material, however, searching just "AI", alone, often isn't sufficient. Also .... it's probably better to hilite/target the specific aircraft types which you're after too .... depending on what era of ANSETT operations you're wanting to replicate within FS. Some standard 3D models .... like those which HJG offer "HERE" .... and their textures .... can, apparently, be used as either operating or static AI subjects .... BUT .... maybe with the imposition of a significant FPS performance hit as a consequence. I actually flew with ANSETT a couple of times .... on their B727-200 ADVC's (VH-RMK and VH-RMN) .... back in the late 1980's .... and whilst they were contracted to technically (and managerially) assist both POLYNESIAN AIRLINES and the COOK ISLANDS INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE .... and I enjoyed the service and attention both in the cabin, and "up front" whilst I was ridding the jump seat, too. It was sad to see ANSETT cease to exist .... shortly after AIR NEW ZEALAND's acquisition of the airline back in the late 1990's, but, as most Australian's now accept (many didn't at the time) .... although we/AIR NEW ZEALAND did in fact cut ANSETT loose (we had to) .... we weren't actually responsible for the airlines collapse .... which very nearly took us out/down with them too. The writing had actually been on the wall, for ANSETT, from the early 1980's .... with the airline having been loosing money in a very big way even around the time of Reg ANSETT's demise .... and before TNT ever became involved with it also. We/AIR NEW ZEALAND became involved with ANSETT .... as our selected STARS ALLIANCE member partner .... essentially in order to realize traffic rights on the Australian domestic route network after the Australian government, of the day, first approved, the later denied, such authorization .... finally stating that if AIR NEW ZEALAND wants traffic rights on the Australian domestic route network then the only way they would allow it is for us to buy into an established Australian airline .... "ANSETT AUSTRALIA". At the time .... and from the mid 1980's .... New Zealand was, effectively, one of the only countries in the world (if not "THE ONLY") to have ever allowed a foreign airline (ANSETT AUSTRALIA .... re-marketed as ANSETT NEW ZEALAND .... which later evolved into the very short-lived QANTAS NEW ZEALAND) to fly domestically, within New Zealand, and in direct competition with our own national airline .... which had been ripping the New Zealand public off for years .... and we/New Zealand wanted a reciprocal deal. There's a lot to be said for competition .... which is certainly what we then got .... with much improved service standards and airfares/tariffs in order to beckon bums on seats, put freight in the holds, and generate money in the bank .... even though New Zealand, today, probably, still isn't the cheapest or even the very best/most competitive country in the world within which to fly .... considering what we're often obliged to have to pay in order to be able to do so over our own domestic route network and in comparison with other countries. STRANGE .... because I'm sure I've seen AI stuff relating to ANSETT during the course of my searching for other aircraft type material .... though not necessarily as the result of searching for just "ANSETT" related material specifically as I suggested, above, could be tried.
