I've recently downloaded a Lockheed L-1011 and it is a fantastic model. I took it out for a test flight from Edinburgh to Glasgow and in the middle of the flight I had to go somewhere so I saved the flight and left. When I got back and loaded the flight, everything was OK until I realized the engines weren't running! For some reason, when I load this particular aircraft in any situation, the engines are off as if I have just shut them down! Also I'm not sure if it's supposed to but it takes an age for the thing to start up in the first place (control+e). Is there a way to fix this?

I'm not aware of any such issue having been previously reported .... in either FS2004 or FSX .... HOWEVER .... saved flights can result in issues for some panels.
I never "SAVE" flights .... preferring instead to complete each sesssion .... or .... even in cases of interruption .... start a new session later.
The RR RB211 turbofan engine is quite a "slow spooler" during engine start.
The time required .... from the moment the starter on for each engine, on the F/E sub panel, is activated .... until each engine then spools-up to reach N2 20% (the point at which the Center Pedestal fuel lever is engaged to ignite the engine) .... requires approximately "20 seconds" .... AND .... the time then required, beyond this point, for each engine to continue spooling-up to reach/stabilize at its idle running speed (N1 20%/N2 60%) is approximately an additional "40 seconds" (as has just been timed by me in FS2004) .... OR .... roughly some 60 seconds in total for each engine and which is "quite normal"
That's what you should be seeing/experiencing during engine start up in FSX too.
I, personally, don't ever use CNTRL E engine start up procedures .... favoring the flicking of buttons and levers on various sub panels instead .... unless you're forced to use such commands through these sub panels, maybe, not displaying in FSX .... which, not being an FSX user myself, I'm not sure is the case.
REMEMBER .... each of the panels we currently offer is primarily FS2004 based, but, should work fine in FSX too .... unless otherwise stated on the respective downloads pages.

Ah thanks very much. Yeah I don't know why but the L-1011's engines take about 30's extra to start than even my default 737-800. I suppose it will start eventually anyway and the saying is "don't fix what ain't broke" so that's fine. Yes I see what you mean about completing a session in full or starting another one but I usually fly quite long routes (I was going to take the L-1011 from Heathrow to Islamabad) but seeing as though it has said problem I don't think that would work

MSFS default aircraft engine startup duration/cycles can tend to be "pretty unrealistic" (so don't be fooled) .... to say the very least. "IF" you're getting a startup cycle of some 60 seconds in total .... along the lines of what I've decribed above .... then that's "pretty accurate" as well as being "quite normal" too. As for my commentary regarding to your "SAVED FLIGHT" experience .... I'm only speculating ..... BUT .... that could, possibly, be a normal reaction to this sort scenario Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks, I just downloaded the sound set for the L-1011 (mines a British Airways one so I decsided to use RR Conways) and it sounds amazing! I also have a Boeing 720 although I seem to have trouble with using it. I'm not sure if you could help with the 720?

OOH NO .... I hope you mean the RR RB211 soundpack. Our 2 RR CONWAY soundpacks are for DC8-40 and B707-420 "ONLY". You'll find our customized RR RB211 soundpacks .... especiaklly for the Erick CANTU/VISTALINERS L1011 TRISTAR (with our own FDE) .... located on our LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT SOUNDS downloads page. Yes I know, but absolute noise was so good I couldn't resist I will at some point sort that out but right now I'm trying to download a Boeing 720. I followed the steps as per the readme and it seems that the aircraft refuses to "show up" once you load FSX and chose an aircraft via the main menu. Can you suggest anything for that?

Actually sorry to sound unprofessional and all but I actually did download the RB211 engine sounds from here for FSX after all!

You're best (in future to start separate thread in regard to an installation concrning another aircraft/panel/sound etc .... since it's an entirely separate issue from your original L1011 query. The point being .... what you post, as a separate issue, may, later, be sighted by, and then aid, someone else with the same or similar issue We'll let it pass "on this occasion" and I'll comment, briefly, as follows in regard to your B720 installation anyway.... These aircraft do function in FSX .... BUT .... make sure you've activated the "FSX related AIRCRAFT.CFG file" within the aircraft base pack (required for sake of the smoke effects being able to work properly and which assume different co-ordinates than the FS2004 data .... hence the need for a separate FSX related CFG file with aircraft supported by smoke effects). By default all of our aircraft base pack files download with AIRCRAFT.CFG data ready for FS2004 use .... and the same may apply to most of the panels as well. Again .... you need to activate the FSX CFG files (in accordance with the installations) .... if you haven't already done so. If you're not, currently, using HJG supplied panels .... and HJG hosted AEROMUSICA sound packs for the B720 simulation .... then just make sure the default PANEL.CFG and SOUND.CFG files are aliased to the default FSX B737-800 too .... rather than the default FS2004 B737-400. A discrepancy in regard to any CFG file may result in a "NO SHOW" within FSX. Beyond the above advice .... and since I'm not FSX myself .... I can only encourage you to read the FSX installation tutorials provided by Dan on this FSX SUPPORT forum page. "NO SHOWS" are a relatively common issue .... but .... 99.999% of the time these are only the result of one or other FSX installation conventions not being properly adhered to. Again .... do start a separate thread for the sdake of this B720 issue .... "if you need to" Mark C AKL/NZ

Some of the more complex aircraft can not be saved successfully in mid flight
This is because they use special coding written just for that model so when the flight is saved, the special data is saved but as it's not default data there is no base data to be modified when the flight is re loaded.
I can't say if this is the case here but I have had a few models that will reload without engines. They can be started and missing systems switched on, but they just won't come in and run like default aircraft or models that use default coding.
