Anyone out there trying FSX on Windows 8? I have not purchased one yet, but have a chance to buy a very nice gaming machine with windows 7. Since I'm still using Vista with not enough RAM, I've been considering purchasing this machine with 7 rather than going to 8 as I don't like 8 at all.

I have heard of problems with FSX and Win8 as well as other games. It would seem Win8 is geared towards the mobile user at this time and you lose some important functionality like the start bar! You can pay for this along with Windows Media player as an extra!I would suggest that you go to Win 7, no doubt you have seen what a pain Vista is... well Windows is like FS they release a good one then a bad one! I have Win 7 on a laptop which I can bear...just but use XP Pro on my main machine

Hi: I don't use FSX yet, but FS 9 on my laptop i3 with Windows 7 works very well also with very (framerate wise) demanding simulations, even my old MS Sidewinder joystick works in spite of the official MS position, that it should not work. BUT: Stay away from a machine with the integrated Intel HD graphics, as this "product" does not support anti-aliasing! So I have to live with ragged lines and if I want to take screen-shots I go back to my old PC with a dedicated graphic card (ATI) and Win XP. Kind regards Walter

Thanks guys, I really don't have a problem with Vista like most users have indicated they have had in the past. I don't know why, but it humms right along. All I ever did was install a GPU with 1 G of memory and the only problem I've had is a stutter every now and then, but that is probably due to either processor speed or my FPS is set to max, and the processor can't keep up with the fast GPU. I went out yesterday and played with a 8 machine at the store, and it sucks. I almost asked the sales guy if I could bring FSX in and install it to see how it ran, but decided not to. Anyway thanks Tony and Walter. I appreciate your input very much. Falcon

Hi Falcon! Sometimes the stuttering of FS has the cause of background activities on your PC (weather-update of FS, update of anti-virus programs etc.). One can shut off this frame-rate killers by programs like PC Alacrity. Kind regards Walter

Thanks Walter, I have to shut down my Anti Virus as it really conflicts with FSX. I usually go in to "Task Manager" and shut down the programs that are eating up processing speed. Of course there are several that I can't determine their use, as I'm not a computer wiz. I hope Tony sees this posting, as I did more research on Windows 8. Well here in the States anyway, 8 does come with media player, and also the start bar if one goes in and changes the way it looks by using "Classic View" I'm told. I haven't been back to the store yet to check it out. I'm considering taking FSX disc with me and see if they let me load it. Thanks Walter. I'm going to try that program. Falcon
