I found this photo on the net >> www.jetsite.com.br/fotos/N277WA_AVIANCA.jpgAnd was excited to see that Avianca had an MD-11 in the red livery. I searched and searched but could not find anything anywhere for an FS livery, so I decided to paint my own... The above livery is unfinished work... However, to my disappointment upon close inspection of the first photograph, I found something strange that didn't make sense by the tail area and I realized...oh sh*t, this is photo-shopped ... So I went back to the forum where the picture was posted >> www.diecastaircraftforum.com/1-400-scale-model-aircraft/39145-more-fake-md-11s-john-johnson.html and read the comments and sure enough, it was photo-shopped. At that minute I lost interest in continuing to paint this livery. So, I don't know...what do you guys think? It could make a good fictional livery I guess. The part that has me banging my head on the wall is ... how did I not see the "retouched photography" words on the picture, I guess I got too excited!

It looks not so bad. It is pretty good and will be perfect when you finish it.

I decided to keep working on it, looks a lot better now. Just a few final touches and I think I'll have the left side completed. I removed the thin line that travels up to the tail turbine cone and pushed it to the right, so I think that looks better ... this is fictional anyway so I think it looked better that way I'll prob. finish it by morning my time, then I'll go to sleep and then do a flight with it. If am not feeling lazy at the moment I may upload it to flightsim.com and avsim.com but otherwise, I may just do it when I get around to it.

Very nice You neglect to mention to HJG viewers what make this plane is:) If you decide to work more on this livery, may I suggest that you make engine chrome rims super shiny. I have Overland MD-11s with engine chrome rims super shiny painted by painter. Regards, Aharon

I will definately do that, I'm also 'aging it' up a bit ... having fun with it here and there. What make it is? ehhe, we shall see when it rolls out the hangar.

When I say "what make", I mean what software company for that MD-11 such as Overland or PMDG or IDFG. I do not mean what kind of painting.

I know what you meant bud :] overland One more set of windows to finish up at the rear and the left side is complete. I'll lay out the textures and see what it looks like in the sim. The bottom side will be a bit reflective but hardly noticeable and I'll adjust the alpha channels to aim for the shiny engine chrome rings.

Hi: Seems that no AVIANCA jet had ever blue engine cowlings (all where and are white) AVIANCA would have had maintained the white engine cowlings on the MD11 also. But besides that nice repaint!

Remember this is a work in progress, the blue engine cowlings are there because I overwrote the textures into the Finnair livery. This Avianca MD-11 will NOT have blue engine cowlings....I think it is best if I do not show any more previews until the whole thing is complete!

I've just finished with both sides of the fuselage!!
Next up finalize engine nacelle colors and paint the registration and titles on the top and bottom of wings like Avianca does!

I've only just caught up with this posting .... since I'm "IN AND OUT" at the moment and won't be participating 100% with HJG throughout most of this month/January 2013. I'm not "in the least" intending to be unsupportive of this fictional livery since, .... BUT .... I do know a bit about AVIANCA and the MD11 .... in terms of real world operations since it's something that both Camilo and myself have studied/researched in the rercent past .... For additional lift on its services between Bogota DC and the USA (New York I believe) During December of 1998 .... AVIANCA "did", briefly, operate "an MD11-ER" (N278WA) .... Photo: Joe PRIES This particular aircraft was "leased" from WORLD AIRWAYS. Throughout this lease it supported an overall white fuselage (with WORLD AIRWAYS pin stripping) and tail with red and black "AVIANCA COLOMBIA" fuselage titles .... and red "AVIANCA" titles on the tail. So far as I'm aware this aircraft was operated by AVIANCA for about 1 month only (though some sources suggest a much shorter duration) .... before being returned to WORLD AIRWAYS, by January 1999, and at the conclusion of its lease. So far as I'm also aware .... AVIANCA never had any genuine intention to evaluate the MD11 as a prospective future fleet introduction, but, like many other airlines around the world, it has, occasionally, leased-in other large aircraft types from other operators in order to meet its seasonal traffic demands/projections .... again this being the case with this particular MD11 during December 1998. Ficticious or not .... I'm sure a lot of folk might enjoy this texture .... once it becomes available. Mark C AKL/NZ

Mark,
You are correct about leasing from World Airways the rare MD-11ER (extended range). EL AL also leased two of rare MD-11ERs from World Airways for two years due to the fact that EL AL was caught unprepared and unexpected with massive overbookings and not enough planes to fly passengers. So they were forced to lease two MD-11ERs for 2 years or so which angered the Israeli government because the government did not like to lease OR to get planes WITHOUT security modifications. They prefer to buy planes so that they can modify the planes to enhance security. By leasing MD-11ERs, they could not modify the planes to add security enhancements which was why the government was so pissed.
