Sorry for what is probably a silly question.
I LOVE some of the old SAS dc 9 skins here. AND I have the Sky Simulations DC 9 payware (shoot me... ) ;D , which I happen to enjoy a lot. Getting a "Old time" SAS skin for the latter seems impossible.
SO, is there any easy way to transfer (or copy) a skin from here to the Skysim DC9? Not that it will fit right away, but as a starting point for making my own custom skin?
Any advice greatly appreciated! :-)

Yes..it is possible, but
Just be wary of any copyright issues with the authors of the original flies
But as to feesabilty...general terms
You just copy and paste the old textures into the new maps as you would with any logo or other elements in a paint
Yes, you will have to cut and move arround to fit, but you can easily add the bits you want as mentioned above.

I very much doubt textures for HJG DC9 models are going to fit any of the SKY SIMULATIONS DC9 models .... for reason of the texture mapping differences between the two that you've already apparently noted In fact it would probably be far easier .... certainly less time consuming anyway .... to produce "entirely new texture/s" especially for the SKY SIM DC9 model/s than trying to edit HJG ones to fit .... unless one was "EXCEPTIONALLY CLEVER" of course Mark C AKL/NZ

They won't fit
He is asking if it's possible to use parts of the textures as a starting point, which is is as I explained above.
Personally, I've always found it better to start from scratch, but the question was to as whether it is possible and it is...just maybe not practical or indeed ethical.
Using the elements is starting again except it save researching and sourcing the various logos etc from wherever.

Years ago, mind you, someone told me all I needed to do was Copy & Paste, the Texture onto the Aircraft !!! Well, Ok,,, I thought,, but, I had no idea what they were talking about ,,, So for about 3 days, I pondered over once I copy it,, from the Printer / Scanner on a sheet of paper,, how do I now Paste the Texture onto the Aircraft ?? I even trimmed the paper with scissors around the aircraft texture and sat around trying to figure out how to GLUE the texture onto the aircraft in flight simulator,,,, they said PASTE / Glue,, whatever,, it was all the same to me at the time,,,, Paper/ Glue, Scissors - I thought Presto' !!! Now how do I do it, get this paper texture in there so I can fly it,,, I even went so far as to rescan it, and make a file and attempted to take that file and add it to the aircraft texture folder kinda sorta,,, Fired up my Flight Sim 2002,, and lo-- and behold - Nothing !! OMG What happened I thought ?? OMG Something wrong,, I did what they said, I copied, I pasted or Glued and I put it in the folder,,, Whats the deal Ughhh total frustration sat in,,, nothing was working ,,,, After a few months,, and I settled down, I had to learn more about this and find a way to make it work,,, Finally,, I did,, back in like 2006/2007,, now, I install ALL Aircraft and paints Manually with few problems ! Why, I've got just over 4,000 Aircraft in my Simulator now. But, what about this Glue bottle I've still got laying around,, to Paste with Ummmm ? ;D Jetranger

When I started my trade..photo reproduction, retouching meant scissors, cut paste with glue and retouch with pencils.
Same with artwork...that is exactly what we did in pre computer days.
it has just gone electronic, that's all, the principles are exactly the same except far more capable and diverse using computers.
But you are cutting it out and pasting it over...what other terms would you use???
