I think I've posted similar subject prior, but here goes anyway. I have quite a number of planes in FSX, and some in a Hanger folder on the desktop, not in FSX. I have added many IA to it along with some Addon Scenery files. It now takes 7 minutes for FSX to load and then another 4 minutes to select the A/C I require. Vista OS, moderately fast processor, great GPU. Question is, if I move most of the a/c to the hanger, will that speed up the process? Someone once told me to remove some of the IA I'm not using at the moment, but I don't quite understand how to move that out without possible problems. Was wondering what the "Experts" feel about speeding it up. I have purchased the ultimate defrag and it actually speeded things up quite a bit from what it was. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Falcon

Hello? Is anyone there? No one wants to talk about time to load? OK!

Moving the AI won't change anything, but the presenting of aircraft does take quite a long time, so the more "not genuine" FSX aircraft you have, the longer it takes .... nothing magic really...
10 minutes startup and 4 minutes selecting, indicates a lower end system, and a fair small amount of RAM .... Free amuch ressources from the machine that you don't need, reduce the amount of non-used aircraft, select only a few representatives of each model instead of the full list of all, add as much RAM as you machine can have (relatively cheap update). use Prepar3D instead of FSX ;-) .... btw. second time you yould need to start FSX, it should go very much faster, as this second time alot of data is now stored in the cache instead ....
and btw. btw..... I think people only bother to "talk" about issues when they are interested, and are passing by a post they find interesting ..... bashing people for not replying to a given subject would mostly not raise the interest..... just my 2-cents ....

"NO PROBLEM" Denny .... and I, myself, don't consider it to have been "a bash".
There's absolutely nothing wrong with following up (even restating) a General/Help related query in the light of no information forthcoming .... if one's really "that interested" in the first instance .... and which I know to have been your prime intent on this ocasion.
The only thing I, personally, would ever "frown upon" is follow-ups to an unacknowledged/unreplied postings apperaring on the REPAINT REQUESTS forum page .... simply because what interest some, to want ask there, doesn't necessarily interest those with the ability to actually do it .... and which needs to be respected of course.

Hi, It could be several things: If you harddisk is more than half full, it will slow down significantly. How many disks do you have? How fast is your windows boot time? Have you defragged and/or cleaned the disk recently? Is it a 64-bit OS? It would be a help if you listed the system specs.

Hi Anders, Its a Vista 32 bit system, and yes it is 2/3 rds full, 1/3 of it FSX. 2 disks, and run a payware defrag that has really helped as one can select files to be placed on the fastest portions of the HD. My boot time is horrible as it has always been for Vista. 3.5 ram, 7000 quadcore processor, a high end GPU, And I shut off most everything prior to cranking up FSX. It is a Vista problem I feel, as the bare FSX program took 3 to 4 minutes from the get go. Once it's up and running it runs great with very fast fps (30 to 70) with traffic cranked to 50%, a FS water config. program, and many add on Scenery files, with graphics set on the high end.Until I update to Win 7, it will do. I was just wondering how long some of the others FS takes to load. Thanks for your interest. Falcon

Windows 7 is definetely the way to go ..... Vista has never been much more than a "in between OS" IMHO of course ;-)

Yes Windows 7-64 bit is the way to go. I´m not really sure what a 7000 quadcore is.
Load time on my rig is about 50 sec. I.e. from the time I press "Run as Administrator", till the hard drive has silenced and is ready to take a new airport, aircraft etc. I use an HD for FSX only, and it is now about 25% full.
