I don't doubt, you believe, you've done everything correctly .... BUT ONCE AGAIN .... save for something else you've, possibly, got installed or otherwise associated with your WINDOWS VISTA OS, or that you've edited and aren't telling ..... then you've, likely, still, "NOT" done something right .... it seems.
You need to check all of the following possibilities.
1. In the case of your DC8 aircraft base pack installation
- Where did you install your aircraft Basic Pack ? And specifically .... what is the "actual folder name" of the particular DC8 aircraft base pack you believe to be correctly installed ? And .... in the case of your reported "NO SHOWS" .... have you, inadvertently, still got the valid aircraft base pack folder contained inside the original file container from its ZIP file ?
- Have you, correctly, edited the FLTSIM.XX line in the ADD TO AIRCRAFT/AIRCRAFT.CFG data associated with the texture/s that you are trying to install ?
[fltsim.0]
[fltsim.1]
[fltsim.2] .... etc in the case of a CFG texture chain !!!!
AND .... in the case of your texture installation ..... does the texture folder name for the particular DC8 texture file you're trying to install agree, precisely, with the data/name appearing within the TEXTURE= data line of your ADD TO AIRCRAFT/AIRCRAFT.CFG ?
- Did you edit the PANEL.CFG file contained inside the default PANEL folder to read B737-800 .... for FSX compatibility ? AND .... Did you edit the SOUND.CFG contained inside the default SOUND folder to read B737-800 .... for FSX compatibility ?
2. In the case of your DC8 panel .... assuming you're installing the HJG DC8 panel offerings .... which "ARE" compatible with FSX on all WINDOWS OS ....
- Where did you install your panel folder ? And specifically .... what is the "actual folder name" for the DC8 panel you believe to be correctly installed ? And .... in the case of your reported "NO SHOWS" .... have you, inadvertently, still got the valid panel folder contained inside the original container from its ZIP file ?
- Where did you install each of the panel gauge components ?
- Where did you install each of the panel sounds components ?
3. In the case of your DC8 sounds .... assuming you're installing the HJG hosted AEROMUSICA DC8 sound pack offerings ....
- Where did you install your sound pack folder ? And specifically .... what is the "actual folder name" for the particular DC8 sound pack you believe to be correctly installed ? And .... in the case of your reported "NO SHOWS" .... have you, inadvertently, still got the valid sound pack folder contained inside the original container from its ZIP file ?
4. In the case of FSX installations specifically ....
- Are you .... absolutely certain .... that you've followed "TO THE LETTER" either one of Dan's 3 different, but recommended, installation options/procedures which are applicable to FSX .... each of which "DO WORK" on any oS, but, only if "PERFORMED CORRECTLY".
If any one of the above procedures are "BOTCHED UP" .... then a problem "IS" going to occur that "WILL" result in either an FS "NO SHOW", a CTD or other "FATAL ACCEPT ION". or other performance related issues within FS.
I can't provide more, or better, advice/direction than I've tried to provide to date .... or than that which has, to date, already, been compiled per Dan's own FSX specific installation tutorials .... and .... I can't perform the installation procedure for you.
I need to say .... 90 % of problems which reported here are usually on account of a particular phase of the recommended installation procedures not having been performed correctly .... by the end user.
It's extremely rare for HJG simulations to not work (period) on any particular OS.
I regret to conclude .... there's, really, not much else I can add
