Dave, would his initials be AA by any chance...? If so I am a good friend of his and see him on a regular basis. We were recently talking about this very plane and when he flew that route....He also flew the 727's and was a senior pilot with AJ.

No its not AA,...but that is certainly interesting I used to see the a/c all the time when I worked there in KIN and always thought it looked great with those engines.

.... not to mention "SOUNDING" great too One can't beat the classic based tone "rasp" of those P&W JT3D SERIES fan jet engines .... as there's very little "whine" to those buggers ;D AND .... doesd anyone remember the almost prehistoric startup sound common to the P&W JT3D-1 through -3B SERIES fan jet engine on DC8-50 and -61 only .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_USqwNZvoIThe JT3 and JT4 turbo jet engines (again on DC8's only) exibited a similar, but, slightly higer pitched startup tone .... We all termed this startup sound as "THE DC8 MATING CALL" ;D I was going to build myself an alarm clock utilising this sound (in realworld volume of course ;D), but, someone warned me that my wife might not be too impressed ;D P&W JT3D-3B and D7 engines on DC8-62 and -63 featured completely different starters (similar to those used on the fan jet powered B707's) .... and were "quite boring" in comparison with the earlier DC8 SERIES aircraft during engine startup .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFPYVWihciEJust a few of my "MANY" ramp-side memories over the past 30+ years .... AND OF COURSE .... noises from a by-gone era in civil aviation now Mark C AKL/NZ

8-)Ah Yes I recognise that mating call it did have a unique sound, now I just will have to download an HJG 62 to see how she sounds n FS since I have not downloaded that model yet. The AIR JAM 62 used JM001 as the flight number for LHR flts which also added some flavor to her, Those who knew her loved her. I think ....well most people.
