Ok so, I've long faced a strange historical quandary... Eastern got it's first DC-8-51 in 1964... a full year before the 1st hockeysticks began being painted... yet I'd never seen a picture of one in the pre-hockeystick "spear" scheme... Then a few months ago, I finally found this picture.... N8781R in 1964Interesting looking I thought... then I found another picture in a set i bought off ebay with a full tail on 8781R though not much view of the fuselage... so... one DC-8-51 to be painted! HiRes1HiRes2HiRes3Now obviously this is an over paint of the previous owners cheatline... and when I get back from my 2 and a half weeks in the Caribbean I'll get that version painted too! Still I quite like it myself... would of looked smashing with a gold leaf line between the red and white but... can't have everything!
