David's Comet is one of the best and most accurate models available for FS, free or pay. Once you get used to his very accurate, very complex panels and flight models it is truly one of the most enjoyable aircraft you will ever use in FS, 9 or X. Just be aware of one thing, though...
When he warns that the sound packages are loud he means what he says. They are accurate renditions of the Rolls-Royce Avon and Spey engines, which are historically very loud. Make sure you adjust for this, especially if you use headphones, or you might be in for a rude (and very LOUD) shock.

Why are David Maltby's sounds so much louder (in "blast" terms) than the HJG sounds (eg comparing VC-10 Conways with B707-420 Conways)?
Have the HJG sounds been "bowdlerized"?

Sorry George .... I missed this before. Only just seen it now David's sounds are a lot louder than HJG's .... and practically all other soundpacks that I'm aware of. That's just his particular preference ! With our ("AEROMUSICA") sounds, Benoit and myself have gone to great lengths to try to replicate aviation audio for specific aircraft/engine type combinations .... based on our many years of jumpseat/cockpit experience as observers. We have placed enormous emphasis on trying to perfect interior audio "from a flightdeck perspective" .... which is quite a different sound environment from that which 90% of folk are accustomed to as passengers in the cabin of any particular aircraft type. "OFF TOPIC" now ! .... I strongly recommend folk try David MALTBY's new COMET package .... which inludes new models for COMET 3, -3B, -4, -4B, & 4C, a superb VC cockpit, sounds, and effects. Earlier this year Benoit & myself released our own COMET soundpacks (2 versions of RR AVON engines .... both with and without reverse thrust) which are available from the "SOUNDS" page of the following website .... www.classicbritishfiles.comThese work fine with David's new COMET package .... but .... I have detected that the startups don't seem to work as smoothly like they did with the previous panel. I don't know if this is panel, gauge, of CFG related, or, just me not setting up something correctly on the panel .... "NO" .... I've not read the manual .... I've been too darned busy ! Garry RUSSELL's great COMET textures (and he's done quite a selection of rare ones indeed .... available at SIVIATION.COM. AVSIM.COM, and FLIGHTSIM.COM) all seem to work fine with David's new models .... but .... But .... "BUT" .... these original textures must "all" be renamed according to the new texture file conventions used on David's new models in order to display at all .... and a couple of new bits also added.Again .... this is quite a package and I strongly recommend it to those whom really enjoy the best of the great classics of world civil aviation for FS. Download David's new COMET files from .... www.dmflightsim.co.uk/ENJOY ! Mark C AKL/NZ

And for those interested if you have a computer that is a bit underpowered like mine is, he has a Texture Converter in each aircraft file which I have to use sometimes, its a shame to do this but it enables me to fly his great models without the "jerkies", and along with other freeware sites I've mentioned before with great aircraft on them, I want all to fly on my FS9,

For those interested .... David MALTBY has just released a "FIX" package for his beautiful new COMET VC panel. This addresses a number of reported minor issues. There's 2 options available .... (1) download the entire COMET VC panel again (a 19MB package) from the "COMET" page of the DM FLIGHTSIM website .... or alternatively (2) download just the fix only (a 2MB package) from the links clearly displayed on the homepage of David's website at the following address .... www.dmflightsim.co.uk/Mark C AKL/NZ

Thanks for the HU on the fixes. DM knocked one outta the park, or the British equivilant. GOAL!!!!! I quit flying jets a year ago in favor of prop-jobs, especially WWII bombers. David's Comet is operating almost as much as my Aeroplane Heaven (and WoP) Lancaster. While I don't fly the 707s and DC-8s a great deal, I have everything HJG offers and it would break my heart if I ever had to removed them.
Love this hobby.
