I'd like to change the registration number on a couple HJG aircraft, specifically the various United DC-8-61s to N8076U, and possibly add some weathering and grime as well. Although this will be for my own personal use, I wanted to get pre-approval, as I don't want to end up on someone's s**t list in the future, if someday I happen to post a screenshot and someone notices modifications. Thanks, Chris

Chris
The only thing I would say here is.........if you get the OK and do it, provided they are acceptable to those that give permission, then perhaps you could consider that they could be made available as alternate fleet members?
Just a thought, but if it were to have got that far to the satisfaction of those concerned...................
Thanks
Garry

Garry,
My plan is to just change the reg# at first, since that is a fairly easy and straightforward task. If you really think anyone has a desire to have more than one aircraft that is virtually identical except for the N number, then of course I'd share. I have the forward instrument panels from the now scrapped N8076U, which is my reason for wanting that particular one, in case you were curious as to the significance of that number.
As I have time, I plan on adding weathering effects, grease/oil streaks, a sheetmetal repair here and there, etc. and once I am happy with that, then I would of course share, not only to get some feedback, but in case anyone would enjoy flying a more beat-up version, which seems fitting to the nickname "diesel 8".

Hi Chris
That sounds about right ....no rush when, or if it gets to the beat up version.........it might be of interest to others but that decision would rest with you. Just an idea really and a pointer to the fact that some paints are not offered because the author thinks they are nothing special. But there is quite a demand for things that are just a little different.
So, if you do it and want to, it might be an idea.

Again .... "THANKS" for you help here Garry "CHRIS" .... I've got no problem with any of your requests. Go ahead and change those registrations according to your preferences .... and add all the weathering you desire too. What I'd like you to do is post a couple of good screenshots of each of your alterations in our "GALLERY" section when they're done .... just for everyones appreciation. I note you say these are for your own pleasure, but, as Garry as pointed out, others may be intersted too .... so .... I'm sure we can "possibly" come to some arrangement allowing you to upload them into the public arena "later on". We'll discuss this with you later after you've posted those previews though .... OK And "THANKS" for asking BTW .... that garuntees you definitely won't be on anyones "S#$T" list ;D Mark C AKL/NZ

Hi Chris, May I say, I for one would love to see your work. I absolutely love the weathered effect on the old classics as it adds a little extra depth to realism and obviously brings backs the images of how classics used to look when I saw them flying. I know Garry has done quite a few weathered paints on various models and they look great. If the Mod's are behind you, I say, crack on and throw as much exhaust stains, mud and grime as you can on the old girls!! ;D I look forward to seeing the end results Best wishes PS I promise I'll wash her when I'm done flying!..

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback, and especially Mark for the big OK! I just want to clarify that "for my own personal use" meant that I was doing this for my own enjoyment, and I am not up to anything sneaky, and there is no alterior motive involved in any way. It didn't mean I wasn't going to share the finished product. To the contrary, the feedback would be immensely helpful in order to "get it right". Once I am happy with it, and if you deem it worthy and "up to par", then I have no problem with it being uploaded to HJG, as it appears there may be a demand for something like this. Chris

Hi Chris I never thought for a minute that "For your own personal use " was in anyway sneaky. Often folks that ask that intend to do it for the own use believing that it would not be "Good enough" for upload. Rarely is this the case and it is always a pleasure to see someone getting involved by willing to have a go ;)even if only at first seen as something for themselves. I hope you didn't think I was thinking that. My feeling is come on lets have a go and lets see it. I started painting liveries just for myself. I let a friend see them and he suggested I uploaded them. I didn't think them good enough but there were takers. So best of luck with it and like Mark says lets have a look. ...but please don't feel pressured in any way. We do this for fun........would you believe. ATB Garry

Probably the best public arena for "weathered type repaints" is the likes of SIMVIATION.COM and the others .... but .... we can discuss that later on upon viewing your previews.
In that case I'm having a hell or a lot of fun .... even in complete absence of a big fat pay cheque here each month ;D

Garry, don't worry about it, I only mentioned the "sneaky" part since I am doing something a bit unorthodox, by messing with someone's finished livery and adding/modifying it, rather than a clean canvas. Well, whether or not it will be good enough remains to be seen, but changing the "N" numbers has come out alright. Although I have been messing with photoshop and paint shop pro for years, and have tinkered with aircraft panels for a couple years now, I will admit I am new to messing with aircraft textures in FS, but my recent discovery of dxtbmp has opened up a whole new can of worms. I guess my biggest problem at this point is thinking "3-D" and "round" when the bitmap is flat. ;D
