Previews for the upcoming Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3B engine soundpack for the DC-8-50 series. DC-8 Super 61 uses the very same engines but is not featured in previews, although it will have its own separate soundpack to differentiate the reduced sound volume in flightdeck views, the engines are located much further back, aprox 6 metres.

Missed approach prior to a hard landing or not .... G-R-E-A-T audio/visual production and presentation once again Benoit .... "And on behalf of captain Benoit PLAMONDON and his crew we appologise for that missed approach .... meteorological influences just prior to touch-down forced our captains prudent judgement to abort that landing ....
.... We also appologise for the somewhat firm arrival that followed .... Since creators of this Virtual Honolulu scenery for FSX informed us of an uneven patch in their runway surface so we were doing our very best to try´n flatten it for them" .... This particular new audio presentation, by Benoit, features P&W JT3D-3B fanjet engines for the DC-8-50 and DC-8 SUPER 61 .... "exclusively" .... and are the result of some 3 years of development work so far. These soundpacks .... along with Benoit´s new P&W JT3D-7 fanjet soundpacks for the DC-8 SUPER 62 and SUPER 63 recently previewed within following audio visual presentations .... www.youtube.com/watch?v=udhAt-vqZBEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=T2lxNa6nlMQ.... are the first of what are intended to be "a complete overhaul and replacement" of all current HJG supplied DC-8 soundpacks .... featuring not only superior quality, but also, much more authentic audio than is currently offerred by us. These new DC-8 soundapacks have been compiled/fine-tuned in accordance with our new V5.4 DC-8 FDE .... released during March of this year following some 4 years of renovation work. Separate FS9/FS2004 and FSX soundpacks for each aircraft/engine type version will be released .... the FSX verion of each taking advantage of the superior sound engine (with its unique dopplar audio effect/S) represented within this particular FS version. The P&W JT3D-3B engines .... "in their early/original non-ducted form" .... as fitted to both "DC-8-50 and SUPER 61" aircraft .... were somewhat louder than the ducted-fan version of the same engine used on early DC-8 SUPER 62 aircraft. The later ducted-fan D-7 version of these engines .... fitted to DC-8 SUPER 62H and SUPER 63 aircraft .... exhibited a slightly different audio pitch/tone than that of the earlier -3B engine and were also slightly quieter. The DC-8-50 and SUPER 61 version JT3D-3B fanjet engines also featured different starters than the D-7 engines .... exhibiting a very unique startup "HOWL" (quite unlike the starters for ducted-fan version of these engines and B707 aircraft which also used the same engine types/s) .... the starters for each of these JT3D-3B engines soundpacks also exhibit their own individual audio chracteristic as may be heard within this latest video previews. All of these audio features have been "faithfully" incorporated into each of these new soundpacks .... having been repoduced from real world recordings among Benoits extensive aviation audio library of many years past. The interior flightdeck perspective audio for each of these new aircraft/engine type soundpacks will differ slightly too .... having been tailored in accordance with aircraft/flightdeck to wing/engine distance considerations being borne-in-mind .... resulting in flightdeck based engine volume for the DC-8 SUPER 61 and SUPER 63 being "slightly less distinct" than is necessary for the much shorter fuselage DC-8-50 and SUPER 62 aircraft versions which are "slightly more distinct/louder" by comparison. Also evident within the flightdeck perspective presentation of each of these recent audio/visual productions are some of the new, and revised, DC-8 Panel Gauges/Core Files "SOUND" enhancements too .... featuring new/more authentic air-cart/air delivery and gear wind audio .... along with revised avionics and systems ambience .... and refinements of most other panel/gauge related audio as well since many of the original samples were much too loud. Futher audio/visual presentations will be made in advance of the release of these products .... "in due course" .... and in respect of Benoit´s new DC-8-10 (P&W JT3C turbojet), DC-8-20/30 (P&W JT4A tubojet), DC-8-40 (RR CONWAY fanjet), and DC-8-70 (CFM-56 turbofan) soundpack updates for the HJG DC-8´s in FS9/FS2004 and FSX. Keep up your great work Benoit .... it´s "VERY MUCH" appreciated Mark C BOG/CO

Mark, they never warned me at the virtual flying school about the bumps on the runway... let's be honest here, my flying skills get me up and eventually firmly down on "terra firma". Benoit

That´s one of the problems with FS Flying School you see .... and FS ATC in particular .... they oten "do not" give out enough information If one´s flying skills are off (and which I doubt is the case in this particular instance .... given that was quite a dramatic, but, very nicely excecuted late abort) .... THEN .... at least ones audio skills remain "A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y PARAMOUNT" .... and which "more than adequately" make up for anything suspect or that might otherwise ensure an FS physics imposed or even gravity related firm arrival Again .... I´ve enjoyed these latest audio/visual presentations Benoit .... as I always do in the case of your productions Mark C BOG/CO

Benoit, your work is nothing short of magnificent. I agree with Klaus above who said your sounds add so much more classic atmosphere to the HJG jets. Please keep releasing these gems.

Thank you all very much for your kind comments and support. When I did a lot of aircraft spotting way back when... at Toronto Airport and specially at peak times, you could hear Air Canada and CP Air DC-8s howl on startup. These new soundpacks will keep the nostalgia going, for those who enjoy(ed) them. Benoit
