Hello all. Today we will be flying KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight KL1000 from London-Heathrow to Amsterdam Schiphol airport. The flight will depart Heathrow Terminal 4 gate 21 at 0630 local time. This is one of the first departures out of Heathrow and KLM's first flight from London. Today the flight will be operated by aircraft Douglas DC-9-32 registered PH-DNH, named "Zuric". This particular aircraft was delivered to KLM in 1967 and served until 1987 when it was sold off to Midway Airlines. It was the 214th DC-9 off the line at Long Beach. This aircraft is equipped with 2xJT8D-7A engines giving about 14,000lbs of thrust.
PH-DNH seen at gate during preflight.
For today's flight we have 75 passengers onboard and about 2 tonnes of mail and general cargo. Aircraft empty weight is 25.8 tonnes which brings the Zero Fuel Weight to be about 34.1 tonnes. Fuel load for today's short hop will be 4 tonnes considering we will avoid quick into Schiphol and avoid the morning rush. Crusing altitude will be FL210 at a speed of M0.74.
METAR for EGLL is EGLL 060600Z AUTO 05007KT 020V080 9999 OVC040 11/06 Q1027
So we'll be using runway 09R for takeoff.
Route: BPK Q295 CLN L620 REDFA
The BPK6J departure procedure will be used for takeoff
The Brookmans Park 6 Juliet departure procedure
We also consult the relevant enroute chart and mark out our flight route
We will fly the DC-9 the way it was supposed to be flown: Tracking VOR radials.
Gross weight is 38.1 tonnes and we will use the maximum takeoff thrust EPR 1.98. V speeds have been dialled in. Engines started, aircraft pushbacked and we have taxiied to the runway and lined up.
Flaps 5 takeoff. Ready set.
The cockpit view. Note the HSI and RMI have been set for flying the SID. The London VOR is tuned on VOR1 and Brookmans Park VOR on 2.
Initial Climbout. Gears up. Eager to climb due to the light load and the thrust.
Clean configuration. Making the turn on SID.
After a short while at cruise, making the descent over the channel. Cloudy down there. I hope the ships in the channel can see each other. And yes, I've forgotten to make some photos at cruise
Landfall over the Netherlands.
Gear down. Flaps down. Intercepting the localizer for runway 06.
On approach. We're a bit low.
Aaand.. Touchdown. That was -173fpm
Taxiing to gate. Thank you for flying with KLM. I hope you have enjoyed the pictures.
