It's not 100% right... but here we are, I've been meaning to do it for some time now...
Toronto Pearson Terminal 2 back in 1987 (sort of)... Air Canada mostly flew DC-9s to North Bay and Timmins and other regional points in Ontario but did schedule the 727-200 on some flights...
Taxxing out past a couple Austin Airways aircraft following an Eastern 757... the 748 will depart to YTS the Beech 99 will be heading to Trenton, Kingston and Ottawa. The rest is red tails...
Coming out to Runway 24R (it should be 24L but for some reason the identifier won't update in ADE).
Good bye YYZ... should be back in just about 3 hours.
Climbing out of Toronto heading north...
Lake Simcoe and Couchiching... Orilia sitting on the peninsula separating the 2. Highway 11 twisting it's way north same way we're heading...
Crusing along over the snowy forests of Muskoka...
Our destination on Lake Nipissing...
Nosing over...
And YYB... runway length isn't a problem here... 10000x200' built as a Polar Alert station under NORAD... and over on the south side (left) is the North Eastern command complex of NORAD, deep underground... one of the 3 back up sites for Cheyenne Mountain in event of war, and the most "survivable" of the 3 under 250' of solid granite with independant water and oxygen from natural sources... all this was still top secret in the late 80s still.
Welcome to North Bay...
There should be about 20 CF-101s scattered around the field awaiting disposition but I don't have those in FS obviously...
Alright lets go...
Nice long concrete...
And on north we go...
Cruising northbound...
And nosing over into YTS...
FS really doesn't do Timmins justice...
Runway is a alot shorter here... just over 6400'... actually one of the shortest fields AC flew 727s into (along with LGA)
Right to the end to turn around...
Welcome to Timmins, city with the Heart of Gold (quite literally... the area is covered with mines).
Time to go...
Only a light wind... thankfully with a light load too but this is still short... power on the brakes until the engines threaten to shake us to pieces...
And with about 1000' to spare...
Goodbye Timmins
Passing Sudbury now...
Nosing over into Toronto
YYZ in sight...
Welcome to Toronto
Back over to Terminal 2 we go... passing the brand new Terminal 3 with Canadian still sporting some transitional colorschemes...
Terminal 1 with the International arrivals just starting... KLM 747-200SUD just pulled in, Wardair, Worldways and Nationair all present...
Terminal 1 and 2... Gate 86 with Air Ontairo CV580s and a pair of new Dash 8s, along with a brand new Nationair 757 and a pair of DC-8-60s from Worldways, and red tailed 727s and a DC-9...
Pulling on stand 89 and the end of our round trip today...
Hope you all enjoyed this trip into yesteryear Canada.
