I've asked Tony if anyone was going to do the original take on American Airlines' present colour scheme as initially proposed by Henry Dreyfuss, but I was bored so I have kludged it together (sort of) as a work-in-progress. As proposed Dreyfuss had relied on only red and a lighter shade of blue than American finally decided on, with no white centre stripe or white outline to the lettering. Worst of all, he left the eagle off, a point that riled a retired CR Smith to such a degree he was on the phone to American management almost continually after the plane made its first public appearance in late 1968 or early 1969. I saw the plane six times as a kid (and rode on it another three times, but my dad flew the plane (a -123B) once, and has been a great resource as regards details, since the only photo I've ever seen of the plane appeared in a Czech aviation magazine I used to subscribe to. There are still aspects I am unsure of and I haven't got the registration (the one here is conjectural), but I suppose I'll let Tony make the call if it's up to snuff or not. Painting is not my forte (I guess that's kinda obvious) and I am really, really bad with bare metal. When you try anything for American, that last skill - or lack of same - is critical. If anyone's planning to do this bird, I'll happily defer to them. bwob

Old C.R.SMITH aye .... what a character !
This ones sounds interesting .... more-so if it's realworld and actually existed in this rare scheme.

CR was a unique guy (he was Godfather to my twin brother and I) who knew every employee's first name up through the time he retired to become Seccetary of Commerce in the Johnson Administration.
He used to give us model aircraft on our birthday, which I avoided playing with as a kid, so I have almost all of them today. My favorites are an early (big, Medway-powered) Trident in the American 'Flagship' paint scheme, and an L1011 and 747-100, both in the later 'Astrojet' scheme with the old AA logo in a white circle outlined in orange. I guess the ones I like the most are the planes American never had like Concorde, Lockheed L2000, 737-100, the Trdent and L1011.

I don't know what "BWOB's" plands are for this one. Tony's tied-up at the moment with far more important realworld issues If this particular AMERICAN AIRLINES aircraft is realworld .... and actually flew in the livery represented per the above screenshots, then I'd like to see it uploaded "HERE"."BWOB" .... if you're reading these words then please make contact with me per PM Thanks !
