Beautiful work on those repaints Peter, I'm partial to North Cariboo Air and Canadian North (First Air) subjects, as I would be. Benoit

It's better to have/offer them (because that's the way it/they was) .... for those whom it/they mean a lot/something too. Talking about specific global/regional appreciation/s there And as I've often said .... that's what "history" is all about as well as being the meaning of the "H" in HJG in any case Mark C AKL/NZ

Is that the same WORLD AIRWAYS we know of typically gold and red liveried B727, DC-8, and DC-10 association throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's Peter ? "IF SO" .... then that's a livery (or variation there-of) which I never knew existed Mark C AKL/NZ

Yes Mark same one.
In any case it was a 18 month or so lease as far as I can tell. Went to KeyAir later and was retired in 93. Operated 124Y as far as i can tell. Colors are modified SkyBus colors who operated the plane for a very short period prior to World taking it.

And anyone whos been around this thread for a bit could probably guess what was coming next N727ZV Circa 1985 Skybus Skybus was a shortlived airline that came into being when Frontier sold Frontier Horizon to private investors in 1985. It operated 4 727-100s, 2 727-200s, a 737-200 and 2 leased DC-9-10s though not all at the same time. Mounting losses and a problem with maintenance records shut the airline down in mid 1986. N727ZV lasted all of 81 days in service with Skybus before being subleased to World as seen above, along with all the other 727s in the Skybus fleet. This was as far as i can tell the only Skybus plane in this bare metal color scheme, most of the others were in Red on White with thin blue stripes in the same layout... watch this space There is not relationship between this Skybus and the short lived early 90s DC-9/727-200 operator or the mid 2000s A319 ULCC.

"INTERESTING" geneology .... in respect of the same/similar basic livery for that B721 Peter. We had a SKYBUS in NZ too .... a failed startup operator. It was around 1981/82 that SKYBUS was formed .... as a travel club .... under the AQUA AVIA SOCIETY banner .... and which intended to exploit a loop hole within NZ civil aviation law that it/the company believed allowed it to operate as an aero club in order to provide cheap air services to its membership and essentially challenge the might/manopoly of of AIR NZ on both domestic and international fronts. Initial talk focused on DC-8-50's (though the company probably couldn't have selected a worse aircraft for fuel economy) .... BUT .... which ultimately evolved into a single VISCOUNT 802 (ZK-SKY) that was leased from BRITISH AIR FERRIES .... www.aussieairliners.org/viscount-inter/nz/zksky.htmlThe NZ government of the day did everything within it's power to damage, and/or otherwise frustrate, the establishment of this competition .... since AIR NZ was still a state owned enterprise at the time. In fact I personally, and very clearly, recall the NZ Civil Aviation & Transport Minister publlicy declaring that the VISCOUNT was "very old and people should perhaps think twice about flying on it" .... yet .... civil VISCOUNT operations were still common within the UK at this time and this particular aircraft had already passed its engineering survey to the ssatisfaction of the NZCAD and been accepted on the NZ civil aviation register. As things came to pass .... SKYBUS operated for "a week only" .... performing a single tour of of NZ major cities (for the lucky ones among its growing national membership, but which, for legal reasons had to be operated FOC prior to the companies scheduled inaugural service date) .... until the company discovered that the NZ government had suddenly moved to close the legal loop hole which had allowed it to come into existence, but also then, stopped it from operating altogether. A bit More about the NZ SKYBUS here .... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skybus_(Aqua_Avia)Mark C AKL/NZ

Yes Mark, I saw those... There was also a Tu154 operator from Kazakhstan called SkyBus... popular name without much success being used! About the only seeminly successful "SkyBus" is the (Isles of Scilly) Skybus in the UK.

Other than the downtown AKL to AKL Intl Airport and back to downtown AKL "bus/shuttle service" you mean (also trading as "SKYBUS" .... it used to be "AIRBUS" until they were forced to rebrand) .... every 20 minutes now and 24/7 Mark C AKL/NZ

And another World hybrid for everyone... N1973, 727-23, red paint over Frontier Horizon 3 color cheatline, circa 1986. No record of this one having SkyBus markings but officially operated by them for 7 months before being subleased to World. And after it was done at World, it went to Continental... who didn't bother to fully paint it either... circa late 1986: After CO it was converted into a freighter, operated by Flying Tigers, then Fed Ex, then sold in Panama and finally to Angola, last reported derelict in 2002 at Luanda, probably broken up.

Whoa! That red Skybus scheme and 'eurowhite' World Airways were pretty sleek for a small airline -in the Skybus case- and the time, pretty neat.

Ok the last SkyBus (1985-86) plane DC-9-15 N2892Q There were 2 DC-9s in the SkyBus fleet, both leased from Best Airlines. Skybus also used the DC-9s to operate subservices for New York Air on LGA-IAD, LGA-DCA and BOS-IAD routes on off-peak flights. The nose cone isn't quite perfect... I'll try to fix it up a bit more, but this paint kit layout is very difficult to line up properly for curves onto the nosecone.
