Both NORTHEASTEN DC-8-52's .... N800EV and N801EV .... are ex AIR NEW ZEALAND .... N800EVwww.planespotters.net/airframe/douglas-dc-8-50-n800ev-northeastern-international-airways/epq09xDelivered to AIR NEW ZEALAND (ZK-NZG) during 1971 .... becoming one of the airlines last 2 DC-8-52's (including ZK-NZF) delivered to the airline, both of which were acquired from UNITED given MDC had terminated DC-8-50 production by this late stage. We sold it to EVERGREEN during 1980. N801EVwww.planespotters.net/airframe/douglas-dc-8-50-n801ev-northeastern-international-airways/ejn8djThis was "the first" DC-8-52 delivered to AIR NEW ZEALND (ZK-NZA) .... during 1965. Aboard it I flew from AKL to RAR on the evening of May 10th 1975 .... and for over an hour on that particular flight experienced "THE WORST/MOST SEVERE" turbulence (the result of a large Pacific based TC along our route that night) I've ever experienced as a PAX aboard any flight before or since .... at one stage suddenly loosing some 1,500 FT (as I was told later .... and which was quite a painful experience) in less than several seconds resulting in quite a bit of fear/panic in the forward cabin given what we all heard from way down the back. We sold this one to EVERGREEN too .... during 1976 (their first DC-8) .... the aircraft being painted into definitive EVERGREEN period livery by AIR NZ at AKL, and their crews being trained by AIR NZ at AKL too. Mark C AKL/NZ
