EDIT: You must've d/ld a different panel than I did. I just d/ld the plain 707-320 one. That's probably why the difference.


How many files did you download NOT counting the texture file(s)?

I'm really just posting/explaining generally for the benefit of everyone's knnowledge by the nature of this next reply ....

The majority of his MODEL= CFG entries .... even though these show no detail listed there .... are actually correct because most of the liveries he's selected to install all use the standard configuration B707-320C model .... i.e. using the model folder named "MODEL" .... and which is always assigned "MODEL=" on any CFG file.

I'll just quickly explain the 5X B707-320C models we ccurrently have within the HJG B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack .... although this "IS NOT" the cause of the problem we're trying to resolve here ....

Model= .... this is the standard configuration B707-320C model

Model=323c.... this is the American Airlines B707-320C configuration with different outboard engine pylons

Model=323C_S2HK.... this is the American Airlines B707-320C configuration with different outboard engine pylons and Stage 2 Hush Kitted engine nacelles

Model=HK3.... this is the a B707-320C fitted with P&W JT8D-217/219 fanjet type engines

Model=S2HK.... this is the standard configuration B707-320C model with Stage 2 Hush Kitted engine nacelles

"PETERJHUNTER" .... I'm now pretty sure you've probably got a valid folder still contained within a containing folder from the original ZIP file that's screwing everything up for you.

You're not the first to have done this

I'll get back to you with regard to precisely what to check in order to verify this .... as soon as I can get onto the other FS dedicated PC.

He has that "\panel" at the end of the line. I just d/ld every 320 panel you have and none of them show the alias line ending like that.

"YES" .... it could very well be !

2 things can happen in the case of a mismatch between folder names and CFG data

In the case of a panel folder/CFG mismatch the aircraft might either load OK into FS, but, without the panel .... or .... the aircraft could also fail to appear at all within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu. I've actually seen both situations .... different end results on different peoples PC's, but, the most common end result in this case like this is an aircraft failing to appear at all .... because something (editing error or an invalid folder) is blocking FS from recognizing and displaying it.

Whatever it is in "PETERJHUNTER's " case it's a very minor error indeed .... but .... one that's also major enough to screw things up for him.

I want to get him "back to basics" .... i.e. installing the aircraft, with 1 only texture, and getting that to successfully appear within FS .... whilst also first using the MSFS default Panel, and Sound assignments .... THEN once that's all sorted to start adding all his other panel, sound, and texture choices.

It's the longer road .... but .... I really think that's the best way to handle this if, with our help, he can't immediately identify and correct whatever minor error he's committed there.

I'm just wondering if part of the problem is the texture folder.

In the download zip file you have a folder with another folder which contains the textures ....

Example ..... the zip file ....
florida_west_707-321c_s2hk_n705fw_1993.zip

contains this folder ....
florida_west_707-321c_s2hk_n705fw_1993

inside that folder is the texture folder ....
texture.florida_west_707-321c_s2hk_n705fw_1993

Plus the install instructions etc.

It's the third folder that get's copied into the aircraft folder.

Assuming he's got the Aircraft Base Pack properly/correctly installed and made no errors at all with either his panel and sound alias data .... then a folder within a folder texture error, like you suggest, would only result in the aircraft appearing OK within FS .... but .... completely devoid of any texturing.

I'm pretty certain the problem is related to either .... the Aircraft Base Pack folder (folder within a folder), or, an editing error associated with his Panel CFG alias data., or other simple but critical CFG error.

Again his principal AIRCRAFT CFG data seems correct .... so far as I can quickly determine .... bearing in mind all distractions going on around me at the moment as I try to survive the business war zone here !

I want you to carefully check the following details against what you've actually got installed ....

When you unzip the B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack folder you should end up a single folder named precisely as follows ....

HJG Boeing 707-320C v7

.... not a folder within a folder by the same or similar name as has been known to occur on some PC's if unzipping/targeting files directly toward FS destination files.

It's always best to always UNZIP everything to a temporary folder first .... then identify and manually drag & drop the required valid folder components directly to their destination FS folders.

Notice the absence of underscores between titles in the above Aircraft Base Pack folder name.

The actual "HJG Boeing 707-320C v7" folder you install into your FS9 "AIRCRAFT" folder should be the one containing all the following components ....

I want you to check the base pack data you've actually got installed at the moment agrees precisely with the above inventory of essential components.

Personally .... I'd prefer you actually delete everything you've so far tried to install .... and "START COMPLETELY FRESH" .... installing the above Aircraft Base Pack using the provided default MSFS B747-400 aliased Panel and Sound folders only.

In trying to get re-established this way I want you to forget about custom panels and sounds .... just for the moment .... until after we first get the aircraft appearing in FS for you and using 1 only texture for starters.

Once we get that basic combination up and running .... THEN we'll install the other bits & pieces too .... 1 by 1.

After successfully reinstalling the Aircraft base Pack folder I want you to then add 1 only texture of choice to the AIRCRAFT/CFG data .... do not add all of them at this stage.

Do that please .... and report back .... and if necessary we'll then move on to the next stage regarding panel/s, sound, and other texture options.

Again .... let's start by trying to get your B707-320C appearing within FS with just 1 only texture assignment only

Mark, thx. I've deleted everything pertaining to the 707 from my version of FS9 and drag/dropped just the HJC Boeing 707-320c v7 folder to FS9\Aircraft. I've checked the contents match the list on yr latest post. The folder also contained a config file Aircraft.FSX, but as that isn't on the list of valid files and I'm using FS2004 I've deleted that file. I've also checked the panel.cfg in the panel folder and it shows: -

I've also put just one kivery in the Aircraft folder, 707-320c_aer_lingus_1975_ei-esn. This contains a texture folder and 3 text files, add to aircraft, eula and installation instructions. Both folders clearly appear as sun-folders to Aircraft in Windows Explorer. I've also amended the base file's aircraft.cfg with the details from the Aer Lingus folder, giving it the designation [fltsim.0] and this is now the opening of the aircraft.cfg file: -

Well, I just d/ld the HJG B707-320C Aer Lingus 1975 and it shows up for me. So, you've got a problem somewhere else.

Again, just how many files did you d/l NOT counting the texture file?

OK.....let's try this:

Download the following files:

HJG Boeing 707-320C v7-BASE.zip

b707_core_files_v1.3-panel.zip

b707-320_panel.zip

aeromusica_b707_jt3d-7-320c.zip

707-320c_aer_lingus_1975_ei-asn.zip


Now create a Folder called: HJG 707-320C

Now create FIVE Folders within the above Folder and label them:

AC-Base
Lingus Text
Panel
Panel Core
Sound

Unzip the files into their respective Folders.

Now, it should look like the attached photo except where I have texture.ports_of_call_707-323C_N705pc_1988
you should have your Air Lingus Folder.



Now you have to go into "Panel" Folder and MOVE the Folder named "panel.b707-320" to the "fsfsconv" Folder located in the "aircraft" Folder in your FS9 or FS2004 Folder (however you have it named).

Then go into the "Panel Core" Folder and read those instructions. You CAN get by with just moving the gauge files to your "Gauges" Folder in FS. Then worry about the 'sound' folder later. We just want to get this thing up and running right now.

OK...next go into your "panel" Folder inside the aircraft Folder and open the panel.cfg file and make sure you have.....

You can either add the sound files now or wait to make sure everything else works.

I'm at a loss if this doesn't cure your problem.

"SKY KING" .... if you're using the "B707-320" designated panel for your B707-320C aircraft then that's the wrong panel assignment !

You should be using either 1 of the following 4 "B707-320B/C" version panels only with B707-320C aircraft ....

B707-320B/C "Adv"
B707-320B/C "1970"
B707-323C "AA config 1965"
B707-323C "AA config 1970"

The reasons for this are purely technical (nothing at all to do with display) for the simple reason that gauges in these panels are properly callibrated for B707-320C P&W JT3D fanjet engine performance.

Remember .... the B707-320 is a turbojet powered aircraft .... not a fanjet engined one !

A list stating precisely what panel should be used with which B707/720 aircraft appears on the ABOUT HJG AIRCRAFT page and is entitled "B707 WHAT PANEL WHICH PLANE".

I'm also concerned the data appearing in your image (though very well intentioned and appreciated) could also be extremely misleading too.... but .... thanks for trying to help out anyway !

"IF" .... you've got the folder named HJG Boeing 707-320C v7 successfully/properly installed inside your FS9 "AIRCRAFT" folder .... and "IF" you've made no other edits to anything (other than than AIRCRAFT.CFG file editing required for your texture) then things should now look as follows ....

The PANEL.CFG file inside your default base pack supplied Panel folder should read as follows ....

.... open this containing folder and you'll see the following named valid texture folder ....

.... it's this particular folder only (as bold typed above) that you must drag & drop install to your B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack in order for this texture assignment to agree with your AIRCRAFT.CFG file data .... and for FS to then be able to recognize and display your B707-320C aircraft with its 1975 AER LINGUS livery assignment.

PLEASE CONFIRM YOU'VE DONE THIS TOO !!!!

"IF" you've done all this .... TO THE LETTER .... and "IF" you've made no other edits/deviations whatsoever .... then there's absolutely no logical reason (that I can think of) why your B707-320C aircraft 1975 AER LINGUS textures should continue failing to appear within the FS9 Aircraft Selection Menu .... albeit with basic MSFS B747-400 panel .... and .... MSFS B737-400 sound .... at this stage.

This Aircraft should appear in your FS aircraft Select Menu under "BOEING" .... then "707-320C" .... then listed/identified as "Aer Lingus (1975)".

I want you to go only as far as this stage for the moment (don't get ahead of me please .... and don't make any other additions/edits) and then report back to me.

Again .... "IF" these instructions have all been adhered to then there's absolutely no logical reason why things shouldn't be work properly .... barring something else your're maybe still failing to communicate to us !

Naek, I've FINALLY managed some progress. It appears that the zip utility I had installed was missing some vital component. When I installed a full version and unzipped the HJG files to a folder *I dubbed unzipped, then drag/dropped them from there to FS9\aircraft, lo and behold I had a 707-320C (albeit sans any textures) under the Boeing section when I opened "create a flight". I then used the same new unzip facility on the Aer Lingus texture and drag/dropped that into the 707 sub-directory and now I have a 707-320C in 1975 Aer Lingus livery.

I've also amended the panel.cfg as suggested by adding the \panel subdirectory and checked the sound.cfg as you suggested - both are now as you suggest they should be - though I'm still a little surprised that I should fly a 707 with a 737's sound and a 747's panel! Bo doubt you have an answer for that, which I'll be interested to hear.

To everyone - many many thanks for your input, but I can only echo Mark's comment that the wide range of advice winging its way towards me the last couple of days has caused more confusion than enlightening - a case of too many cooks perhaps? But I do truly appreciate the willingness of the HJG community to help.

OK Peter ... let's now then move on to stage 2, 3, and 4 .... and let's start by doing the easy bits first.

1. B707 EFFECTS

I want you yo go to the HJG Downloads page .... to the "OTHER FILES" section near the bottom of the page.

Identify the "EFFECTS/ALL MODELS" tab .... and go to that page.

I want you to then Identify and download the following named file from this page ....

B367-80, B707, B720

I want you to UNZIP the contents of this download to a temporary folder.

Upon doing so you will see the following named folder ....

HJG Effects Boeing B707

I want you to open this folder.

Upon doing so you will see the following 3 FX files named as follows ....

fx_hjg_b367-80.fx
fx_hjg_b707.fx
fx_hjg_b707w.fx

I want you to manually drag & drop install each of these 3 FX files into you FS9 "EFFECTS" folder .... no CFG or other editing is required .

This will provide smoke effects for you B707-320C aircraft. These effects work automatically .... depending on your aircraft power settings.

I want you to go back to the HJG Downloads page .... to the "SOUNDS" section near the bottom of the page.

Identify the "BOEING SOUNDS" tab .... and go to that page.

I want you to then Identify and download the following named soundpack file from this page ....

P&W JT3D-7 FANJET
B707-120B, -138B, -320C; B720B

I want you to UNZIP the contents of this download to a temporary folder.

Upon doing so you will see the following named folder ....

sound

Before you do anything else .... I want you to first delete the default MSFS B747-400 assigned "SOUND" folder which is currently resident inside your B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack .... it's going to be made redundant by a new/replacement custom soundpack.

From your UNZIPPED "P&W JT3D-7 FANJET B707-120B, -138B, -320C; B720B" download .... I want you to identify and then manually drag & drop install the complete "SOUND" folder (intact .... do not open it, rename it, or otherwise spill the contents).

This file miust be installed "intact" inside your B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack .... again no CFG or other editing is required.

This will provide authentic/custom P&W JT3D-7 engine sounds for you B707-320C aircraft.

3. B707-320C PANEL

Here's where you're going to need to concentrate !!!!

There are 2 parts to this panel installation process which must be followed "TO THE LETTER" !!!!

We have 4 panels which are applicable to our B707-320C aircraft .... named as follows ....

B707-320B/C "Adv"
B707-320B/C "1970"
B707-323C "AA config 1965"
B707-323C "AA config 1970"

For starters .... and for the aircraft you're attempting to install I recommend installing the following named panel file ....

B707-320B/C "Adv"

Pay attention to the following details and work in this precise order .... please !!!!

PART 1 .... I want you to once again go back to the HJG Downloads page .... to the "PANELS" section near the bottom of the page.

Identify the "BOEING PANELS" tab .... and go to that page.

I want you to then identify and download the following named gauges/core files package from this page ....

Core Files/gauges
(required for all panels)

I want you to UNZIP the contents of this download to a temporary folder.

Upon doing so you will see the following named folders ....

gauges

sound

The "GAUGES" folder contains 3 files only named as follows ....

707-120.gau
707-320.gau
707-LATE.gau

I want you to manually drag & drop install each of these 3 gauge files into you FS9 "GAUGES" folder .... no CFG or other editing is required.

The "SOUND" folder contains 46 individual sound/WAV files .... too many to list here.

I want you to "SELECT ALL" .... and then manually drag & drop the whole lot into your principal FS9 "SOUND" folder (the one in your FLIGHT SIMULATOR 9 folder and not the Sound folder of your B707-320 Aircraft Base Pack) .... no CFG or other editing is required !

PART 2 .... I want you to once again return to the HJG "BOEING PANELS" downloads section then identify and download the following named panel file ....

B707-320B/C "Adv"

I want you to UNZIP the contents of this download to a temporary folder.

Upon doing so you will see the following named folder ....

panel.b707-320badvc.1965

I want you to then manually drag & drop install this complete "PANEL.B707-320BADVC.1965" folder intact (do not open it, rename it, or otherwise spill the contents) to your FS9 "FSFSCONV" folder.

You "must" then edit the PANEL.CFG file inside the default MSFS B747-400 assigned Panel folder of your B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack .... precisely as follows ....

By default this PANEL.CFG will/should read as follows ....

I want you to erase the above entry completly .... and by copy & pasting edit this CFG file/replace the existing entry with the following data entry ....

.... AND THEN "SAVE" THIS EDIT .... do not make any other edits/alterations/changes whatsoever.

So long as you have followed each these instructions implicitly you will end up with a B707-320C that smokes like a chimney at high power, rasps like P&W JT3D-7 engines should sound, and with a fully operational custom panel too .... the latter of which is quite complex and does takes time and effort to learn to master properly. "IF" this has all bee done precisely as prescribed then there's no logical reason for things not to work properly.

Deeply indebted - I now have an Aer Lingus 707-320C with that characteristic P&W throaty rumble, an instrument panel that looks like it comes form the 60s/70s and producing more smoke than a year's production from Philip Morris!!! I can now pump out levels of noise and air pollution that in today's PC climate could lose me my operator's license!

I'm assuming that as I load in other liveries and update the 707-320C aircraft.cfg, they will all appear in create a flight AS LONG AS they are the exact same model?

I might want to get back to you vis-a-vis slightly differing models, eg the -323C I've noticed with a couple of liveries, but beyond that all I can say is that if at any time you and I are in the same part of the globe, please get in touch and I'll be happy to buy you a beer!

I felt this's one of those situations that whilst stressing the importance of adhering to recommended installation instructions .... that the best recovery in your unfortunate situation was to take the longer step by step procedure.

You can begin to apply your other B707-320C textures .... in precisely the same manner as directed above, but, avoid editing anything that shouldn't be edited.

I suggest you do this on a one by one basis .... and check that each texture actually appears within FS as you go.

If anything fails to display .... then stop at that precise point and get back to me here .... and we'll try'n assist your recovery from that situation too

"IF" installing any AMERICAN AIRLINES textures .... then you should really install the AA B707-323C panel options as extra panels to you B707-320C Aircraft Base Pack (although this's just a cosmetic technical option and isn't absolutely essential to the smooth running of the simulation) .... but .... I'll try'n explain this process equally easily for you later on this evening .... unfortunately I've got my hands full at work (my war zone) right now !!!!

I guess you'll catch up with these extra details sometime tomorrow .... all going well
