I installed the BOAC 707 on my FSX, running in a Vista environment, following the instructions of Dan step by step. Everything works except for the fact that the gauges are invisible in the panel. I reinstalled it again, at least a couple of times, and the result is always the same. The gauges are there, visible in the "gauges" directory...but the panel seems not to find them. This problem already occurred with other panels. In some case, some panel find all the gauges easily; in some case, panel find just some of the gauges; in some other case - as this one - the panel does not find the gauges at all.
1st question: is the problem knows, and is there a way to fix it?
2nd question: is there another way to make the panel see the gauges (putting the gauges in a different directory...forcing the panel to look for the gauges in a different directory...) ?
thanks in advance for any feedback.

You have downloaded and installed the B707 PANELS GAUGES/CORE FILES package .... haven't you ? It's a seperate downloadable file which appears at the very top of the "BOEING PANELS" downloads page. So far as I'm aware .... so long as everything that's required for these panels to work is downloaded and installed correctly .... then there's absolutely no logial reason why they shouldn't appear in either FS2004 or FSX. These B707 files are compatible with both FS versions ! Mark C BOG/CO

Absolutely, I downloaded the B707 PANELS GAUGES/CORE FILES. I followed Dan's instruction step by step - and I also noticed that there is a difference in release (Dan refers to B707_core_files, but what you can download is B707_core_files_v1.3).
If the installation consists just in copying the THREE "gauges" files from the b707_core_files in the ".....\flight simulator x\GAUGES" directory...I did it, and it just doesn't work.
are there other actions which I need to perform? am I missing anything?

Obviously...the first one...
I can try the other one, but as long as I remember they are both based on putting the gauges in the "gauges" directory in "Flight Simulator X"...
I can try the second approach tonight, and I'll let you know. Thanks for the advice.

I think your problem lies in the Panel installation, please go through it again ...
Yes the Core gauges should go into the default Gauge folder...

And this is the problem. THEY ARE THERE...the three *.GAU files are there, directly under the GAUGES directory ( I mean, not in a subdirectory), in C:\program files\Microsoft games\flight simulator x\gauges\xxx.gau I renamed the panel_fsx file, it's in the correct FSFSCONV ( otherwise the plane doesn't even appear in the planes list ), everything works (including the smoke which starts above the wings ) but those gauges do not appear. And it also happens with other panels: gauges are there, but the panel does not see them. It looks like the Operating System "hides" them...I just don't know. More, in some other panels, SOME gauges are visible and some others aren't...so I can see only half of the panel. Is there a "something" inside Vista which may alter the visibility of a file? Can Vista exclude some files from being accessed? because that is what it seems to happen... or...is there a way to put the *.gau files somewhere else, and ask the panel to go get them there? thanks for your support.... giovanni

Hello giovanni;
Just read about your problem with the panel gauges. I also have the Vista operating system which has caused a number of problems in various areas with FS9 and FSX.
I do'nt have the 707 in FSX but I did install the 727 early model. I followed Dan's installation procedure ( the first one "One way of installing for FSX") and everything worked OK).
The only problem I had was that the textures did not display and that was because I had forgotten to turn off the Direct X10 display.
I am not sure what your problem is, but as mentioned above, if you follow these instructions, it should work.

thanks a lot, Herman, good to know, but:::how can I deactivate the Direct X10 display? I am not even sure Direct X10 is installed on my machine...I should see the "checkbox" on the Customization panel.
I followed Dan's instructions too ( I did it again this evening, just in case... ) and, still, there's no way...it just doesn't see those gauges file, even if they are there, in the Gauges directory... :-(
thanks again...and in advance :-)

Hi giovanni;
If you have the Vista program you should also have Direct X10. you can de-activate it by starting your FSX, then select settings, then select display and then graphics. The Direct X10 check box is located there.

No way, it seems that nothing is as it is supposed to be on this computer. I am checking other forums and I can see that I am not the only one with this problem, but still I didn't find any solution... :-(
I am pretty sure that it's a Vista problem, something related to access rights, but I cannot work it out... :-(

I totally disinstalled FSX and reinstalled it (now I cannot install Accelerator, because he asks for FSX to be activated, and I don't know how to do it...I opened a problem with Microsoft for that), I tried to reinstall the BOAC 707 according to Dan's instructions and...and it does not work again. I am getting crazy for that...what can it be? :-(

Activation is on via the Internet at Microsoft. Apparently you are not too familiar with aliasing, access rights, editing files etc. etc. .. mayby you should take a look at this thread: It's a session I had with a very "not computer litterate" a while back. I'm sorry I cannot go into details once again, as I don't really want to deeply solve everybody's problems when I've written two different ways of making this work in FSX ... The setting of the UAC in VISTA can beturned of, probably through the Control panel, but other wise try to do some searcehs on Google. Anyway here's the thread: tonymadgehjg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=questionsonfsxandhjg&action=display&thread=2210

Well, I have a brand new computer. Just bought, a few weeks ago, Vista was pre-installed. I installed FSX and activated it. Then I installed Accelerator. Then, a couple of days later, before touching anything in the computer configuration, so on the "plain vanilla" Vista and FSX, I tried to install that Boeing 707 following your instructions step by step (and they are absolutely clear) and it just doesn't work, I don't know why. Maybe it's related to the italian version of Vista...the three files are there, but the panel cannot see them. At this point, and only at this point, I started working on the access rights, de-install the whole FSX, reinstall it...still, yesterday night, on FSX just reinstalled, I followed your procedure again, again I copied the three files from core\gauges to c:\...\flight simulator x\gauges\ and still the panel cannot see them.
Maybe I am not that familiar with aliasing, access rights etc ( I had been working as a professional programmer for 10 years, and actually I work as IT Manager :-) ), but all I did was to follow the instructions.
Based on my experience in total different fields, neverthelesswith software and IT architectures,, I am pretty sure that there is a sort of insignificant parameter, somewhere, at Vista level, which is not set properly (by the way, I discovered that the three files, in "properties", had a remark which said "these files come from a different computer - for safety reasons they were de-activated". I reactivated them, but nothing changed).
I opened a problem with Microsoft, let's see if they can help.
thanks anyway for the time and effort you are dedicating to me and to the other FS enthusiast. HJG planes are fantastic, I flew lots of them in FS9 and I really would like to have the chance to have them in my new FSX world :-)

Well it IS possible as both I and a lot of others are happily flying around in FSX ;-)
even in VISTA .... but I'm pretty sure that you are either struck by the UAC in VISTA, or by a missing configuration / renaming or so of the files.... mind you, it IS easy if one is not familiar with installing aircraft in FS to oversee som vital information as small as they seem to be...
