Very soon we'll be releasing a selection of "NEW" textures for the DMFS COMET IV and IVC simulations.
Among these are historic 1960 through 1970/71 liveries for the MEXICANA COMET IV and -IVC fleet .... neither of which (I hasten to add) are identical to the original DMFS offering.
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IV XA-NAP (1966)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IV XA-NAB (1968)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IVC XA-NAS (1960)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION/AEROVIAS GUEST DH106 COMET IVC XA-NAR (1962)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IVC XA-NAT (1969)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IVC XA-NAR (1970)
MEXICANA DE AVIACION DH106 COMET IVC (final scheme) XA-NAS (1970)
MEXICANA DE AVICION was founded as CMTA (COMPANIA MEXICANA DE TRANSPORTACION AEREA) during 1921 .... and later renamed CMA. PAN AMERICAN acquired shares in the airline during 1929 .... and it commenced international services that same year. Like most major air operators around the world MEXICANA entered the jet age during 1960 .... having ordered 3 factory fresh COMET IVC aircraft during 1959. These aircraft commenced the airlines "Golden Aztec" services from July 4th 1960 .... operating between Mexico City and Los Angeles .... and with COMET services being progressively extended to include Chicago, Dallas, New York, San Antonio, and San Francisco. The airline had options to acquire a further two COMET IVC's but these were never exercized. From December 1964 MEXICANA leased a BOAC COMET IV G-APDT .... and purchased BOAC COMET IV G-APDR. These aircraft became XA-NAB and XA-NAP and were operated by the airline until 1969 and 1970 respectively. COMET's began operating MEXICANA's domestic services from 1967 .... and upon acquiring the its remaining PAN AMERICAN owned stock during 1968 the airline became a 100% Mexican owned corporate entity.
COMET IVC XA-NAR was sold to WESTERNAIR N888WA) during July 1973, then sold to REDMOND AIR during 1978. It was withdrawn from service and stored at Paine Field, Everett, Washington, USA, during July 1979, donated to the EVERETT COMMUNITY COLLEGE during 1984, and then donated to the BOEING MUSEUM OF FLIGHT where it remains today as a static exhibit.
COMET IVC XA-NAS was traded to BOEING during 1972 and sold to WESTERNAIR (N999WA) during July 1973, then sold to ONYX AVIATION during December 1976 .... and on-sold to REDMOND AIR, thingy FROST, and the CITY OF CHICAGO also during December 1976, then utilized by the O'HARE ROTARY CLUB from 1986. Upon being declared derelict at Chicago, USA, since 1987 it was scrapped during 1993 despite earlier initiatives to try and preserve this aircraft.
COMET IVC XA-NAT endured two landing incidents at Mexico City whilst in service with MEXICANA .... the first (a belly landing) on October 30th 1966 .... and the second (a failed starboard landing gear extension and collapse upon landing) on December 1st 1970 which occurred upon the conclusion of its last ever flight for the airline. It was traded to BOEING during 1972, sold to WESTERNAIR (N777WA) during April 1973, transferred to DISTRIBUTE AIR during 1977 and then REDMOND AIR during 1979. It was declared derelict at Mexico City during 1994, and later moved to Irapauto and converted into a restaurant. This aircraft remains in existence today as static exhibit in the PARQUE HILDAGO ZOO at Irapauto, Mexico.
COMET IV XA-NAB was leased by MEXICANA and returned to BOAC during December 1969. It was then used as a ground trainer by both BOAC and BRITISH AIRWAYS until 1980. then donated to the BAA Fire Service at London, Heathrow, UK, during 1980 and scrapped during 1990.
COMET IV XA-NAP endured a gear up landing incident at Mexico City during November 1966 but was repaired and returned to MEXICANA service. It was sold to CHANNEL AIRWAYS for spares during 1971, donated to the BAA FIRE SERVICE at Stansted, UK, later during the 1970's and then scrapped during 1981 after having been reduced to a charred wreck.
The first 6 of the above MEXICANA liveries are by Eduardo ROCHA .... "gracias Ed"
The final subject is a "reconditioned" (not edited) texture by Garry RUSSELL. Please take time to refer to HJG's following-linked tribute to Garry .... within which imagery of a lot of his fine work is represented and with more images to be added in the future
