"WHIRLWIND" .... everything Herman advises (above) is very relevent.
You may still have a valid folder within another containing folder from the original ZIP file .... possibly in respect of the Aircraft Base Pack. Also .... that CFG renaming instruction applies only to FSX users. "IF" you are using FS2004 .... then you do not need to remame this CFG file at all .... because, by default, all of the Aircraft Base Packs download with CFG files ready for use within FS2004.
I'm pretty sure that 1 of these 2 possibilities (above) are the reason why you're DC9's (and the CARAVELLE too) will not appear within the FS2004 Aircraft Selection Menu.In the meantime .... let's completely review what you should have done during your installation process .... as follows .... and at length .... so as to hopefully make things easier to follow/understand
1. DC9-40We have both JT8D-11 and JT8D-15 engine DC9-40 Aircraft Base Packs.
Please yourself which one you want to install.
All DC9-40 textures will work with any DC9-40 Aircraft Base Pack.
When these ZIP DC9-40 files are extracted (preferrably to a temprary folder outside of FS) you should see folders named as follows ....
hjg mcdonnell douglas dc-9-40 jt8d-11 v1.13
OR ....
hjg mcdonnell douglas dc-9-40 jt8d-15 v1.13
.... depending upon which of the 2 DC9-40 Aircraft Base Packs you decide to use !
Note the "lower case" font associated with these folder names. These folders are just the containing folders for the DC9-40 Aircraft Base Packs and from the original ZIP files.
Inside each of these respective DC9-40 containing folders you will find another folder which will be named as follows ....
HJG McDonnell Douglas DC-9-40 JT8D-11 v1.13OR ....
HJG McDonnell Douglas DC-9-40 JT8D-15 v1.13Note the combination of both "upper and lower case" font associated with these folder names .... which are also the actual DC9-40 Aircraft Base Pack folders which must be installed within the FS "Aircraft" folder.
The original DC9-40 containing folder may be dumped .... after the valid Aircraft Base Pack folder has been removed and successfully installed within FS.
Each of these valid DC9-40 Aircraft Base Pack folders contain the following essential data ....
Model folder
Panel folder
Sound folder
AIRCRAFT CFG file (named just "Aircraft" ....
DO NOT RENAME THIS)
AIRCRAFT CFG file for FSX (named "Aircraft_FSX" ....
for FSX use only)
All you need then do is add your desired DC9-40 texture folders and then edit the CFG file with the appropriate ADD TO AIRCRAFT data from each texture download.
2. DC9-50Precisely the same (as above) applies also in respect of the DC9-50 Aircraft Base Pack folders .... of which there are also 2 files available .... and which you can similarly please yourself which you install because, again, any DC9-50 texture may be used with any DC9-50 Aircraft Base Pack folder ....
When these DC9-50 ZIP files are extracted (again preferrably to a temprary folder outside of FS) you should once again see folders named as follows ....
hjg mcdonnell douglas dc-9-50 jt8d-15 v1.13
OR ....
hjg mcdonnell douglas dc-9-50 jt8d-17 v1.13
.... depending upon which of the 2 DC9-50 Aircraft Base Packs you decide to install !
Note once again the "lower case" font associated with these folder names.
Again these folders are just the containing folders for the DC9-50 Aircraft Base Packs and from the original ZIP files.
Inside each of these respective folders you will find another folder which will be named as follows ....
HJG McDonnell Douglas DC-9-50 JT8D-15 v1.13OR ....
HJG McDonnell Douglas DC-9-50 JT8D-17 v1.13Again note the combination of both "upper and lower case" font associated with these folder names .... which are also the actual DC9-50 Aircraft Base Pack folders which must be installed within the FS "Aircraft" folder.
Again the original containing folder may be dumped .... after the valid DC9-50 Aircraft Base Pack folder has been removed and successfully installed within FS.
Each of these valid DC9-50 Aircraft Base Pack folders also contain the following essential data
Model folder
Panel folder
Sound folder
AIRCRAFT CFG file (named just "Aircraft" ....
DO NOT RENAME THIS)
AIRCRAFT CFG file for FSX (named "Aircraft_FSX" ....
for FSX use only)
Again, all you need then do is add your desired DC9-50 texture folders and then edit the CFG file with the appropriate ADD TO AIRCRAFT data from each texture download.
Please make sure that your Aircraft Base Pack files are correctly installed .... precisely as advised above.
If you are using FS2004 .... the please also make sure that you "DO NOT" rename the AIRCRAFT.CFG or AIR.FILE.
If you/anyone is using FSX .... then only in this case does the default FS2004 AIRCRAFT.CFG file need being removed from FS and the remaining AIRCRAFT_FSX CFG file renamed to read "Aircraft" .... it should not be necessary to rename it Aircraft.CFG
I suspect you have your Texture folders correctly installed, but, just to make sure this is indeed the case .... then your selected texture folders, as nstalled inside your Aircraft Base Pack, should appear as follows ....
texture.abx_2004_n900ax
texture.austrian_dc-9-51-oe-ldl-1981
.... for your DC9-40 and DC9-50 respectively.
Again I suspect your ADD TO AIRCRAFT/CFG editing has been completed correctly .... as follows for the DC9-40 ....

Since the above ADD TO AIRCRAFT data reflects some of my own editing preferences you might like to
"copy and paste" this particular data to your own CFG and in place of what you currently have there.
If all of this has been done correctly .... then your 2 DC9 aircraft "WILL" appear within the FS2004 Aircraft Selection Menu under the following headings ....
McDonnell Douglas/DC-9-40/ABX Air (2004)and ....
McDonnell Douglas/DC-9-50/Austrian Airlines (1981)"GOOD LUCK"
.... and thanks for your assistance/guidence too Herman !
