Upon having checked all the DC9-40 and -50 ADD TO AIRCRAFT/CFG data (those I have installed or packaged for uploading) .... and having compared this basic data to that of other DC9 aircraft we offer here too, I can't detect any obvious reason why either of these aircraft should not display within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu.
They are all displaying fine for me .... in FS2004 !
The following is an example of the ADD TO AIRCRAFT/CFG data from my own installations .... 1 for each of these 2 DC9 types at issue .... and with the critical CFG data lines bold typed.
PLEASE NOTE .... some of my data differs from HJG conventions for reasons of aircraft identification which is according to my own specific preferences ....For the DC9-40 ....// FS2004 /////////////////////////////////////////////////

Check that the following basic but critical CFG data lines appear as prescribed above ....
TITLE=DC-9-40 .... for the DC9-40 !
TITLE=DC-9-50 .... for the DC9-50 !
This refers to the basic aircraft type name for each aircraft type. This data should appear as above .... basic type name only, Anything else can (sometimes) potentially "confuse" FS !
SIM=DC-9-40 .... for the DC9-40 !
SIM=DC-9-50 .... for the DC9-50 !
This refers to the AIR.FILE name for each aircraft type. A wrong AIR.FILE name will cause an aircraft to not display within FS !
MODEL=02 .... or .... MODEL=06 .... for the DC9-40 !
MODEL=02 .... or .... MODEL=06 .... for the DC9-50 !
The textures for these aircraft use the same 2 respective aircraft model assignments. Care must be taken to ensure that the textures are used with the correct models/aircraft base packs .... or .... aircraft will either appear completely blank/devoid of textures within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu, or, not appear at all !
TEXTURE=abx_2004_n900ax .... for this particular DC9-40 !
TEXTURE=hal_1999_n699ha .... for this particular DC9-50 !
This line must agree absolutely with the specific Texture folder name .... or .... aircraft will appear completely blank/devoid of textures within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu.
The above are probably the most critical CFG entries .... and the ones which people most commonly make errors with .... and which can, and does, result in FS not recognizing installed aircraft.
The following CFG data governs how these aircraft will be indexed/located within the FS aircraft Selection Menu .... again subject to some to my own display preferences which differ from standard HJG conventions ....
ui_manufacturer=McDonnell Douglas
ui_type=DC-9-40 (JT8D-11)
ui_variation=ABX Air (2004)
This aircraft will then be located/found within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu under the following headings/titles ..... MCDONNELL DOUGLAS/DC9-40 (JT8D-11)/ABX Air (2004)
ui_manufacturer=McDonnell Douglas
ui_type=DC-9-50 (JT8D-15)
ui_variation=Hawaiian Airlines (1999)
This aircraft will then be located/found within the FS Aircraft Selection Menu under the following headings/titles ..... MCDONNELL DOUGLAS/DC9-50 (JT8D-15)/Hawaiian Airlines (1999)
Installations of add-on aircraft within FSX require a little more care .... and slightly different procedures too .... which have tripped-up a few people. I'm not an FSX user myself .... so .... I can't advise definitively regarding these procedures, but, my colleague Dan K.HANSEN has provided superb FSX aircraft installation tutorials to aid everyone and which are located on our FSX SUPPORT forum page.
Be advised .... that Dan, whom normally attend to these matters, is away on vacation until next week, so, folk requiring FSX specific support will have to bear with us .... until Dan's return and his own convenience .... SORRY ! Another thing that also needs being checked too is the PANEL ALIAS entries, within PANEL.CFG files (where applied) are all edited correctly as well and precisely in accordance with specific panel file names. I have noted that on "some" (only) FS installations erroneous data here can result in an entire aircraft not displaying within FS .... rather than an aircraft displaying without its panel which is the most common result under such circumstances.
At the end of the day .... these DC9 models, FDE, and effects "are" all FS2004 and FSX compatible and will work in FS "IF" correctly installed.
Herman is correct ....
Our current DC9 panel line is FS2004 ONLY compatible .... as is stated on the DOUGLAS PANELS downloads page, installation instructions accompanying each panel, and within support notes .... and within many other references made on these forum pages.
