Hi at all, I've downloaded the DC-8-63F and -73F and noted that there aren't the strobe lights. I've checked aircraft.cfg file and verified that the [LIGHTS] section is not present. Have I to put the LIGHTS strings manually? Or, simply, in the real DC-8, strobe lights are not present (I'm not so expert with this aircraft)? Thank in advance for any help, best regards

No -8 was ever delivered from the factory with strobe lights. Some owner/operators did add them many years afterwards. So its a hoj-poj of different configurations. No way to model them accurately. You can add a lights section to the aircraft.cfg file of your -8 and just put in the strobes. Otherwise, the lights on the model now are accurate as modeled (at the time the plane was manufactured). Hope that info helps. Enjoy the flying the -8! Dee

Has somene added strobe lights and can tell me the strings to add to the aircraft.cfg, at least for the -63F model? There is no reference in the file, i've tried to search and copy the coordinates of nav lights, but also these are not present.

The nav lights are built into the model. No need to add them.

Yes, and in fact by this I can not know coordinates to place strobe lights. I have not to add nav lights, but I'd like to add strobe lights.

Living in the approach to the 17/18's at DFW, I can tell you that Delta DC-8-61's did not have a strobe like we think of today. Instead, the red or green nav light rotated back and forth (as opposed to rotating 360-degrees), which from a distance made it appear as if the red or green nav light were pulsing.
Funny, it seems like Delta's original 727-200's had a very similar config?
I do not recall any strobe at all on the Braniff -62's I used to see, just the steady nav lights on the wings. Much more recently - UPS - but now I cannot recall whether they had real strobes or not? The Delta 8's I am very sure about, though. On a clear night, you could spot one from miles away...

Search the HJG General forum for DC-8 Shockwave Lights. You might find the info you seek from those old postings. Good luck!

My humblest apologies to bring this old post up but while we are on subject of wing beacon lights, I notice that my DC-8s have red light on edge of left wing and WHITE light on edge of right wing. Is the WHITE light correct color or is it supposed to be green??
Regards,
Aharon

Are you sure it's white? And not a really light blue color?

Dee,
In my passenger version of DC-8-50 series using Cayman Airways livery, the light beacon on edge of the right wing is white. Is it supposed to be light blue? I have not seen my other DC-8s' wings' light beacons.
The main reason I am asking is that I take pride in realistic portrayal of commercial aviation using my screenshots and I do not want my screenshots to look unrealistic for sake of proper educational presentation of history of commercial aviation.
What color is it supposed to be so that I can cover white light up with edited light at specific DC-8's wing light color? Do anyone has photograph sample of that?
Regards,
Aharon

Red Light on Port side. Green on SB side. This is the DC-8-62, but all other DC-8's have the same arrangement and colors. At times they do appear to be surrounded by a white globe as do the beacons when viewed from a certain angle. Herman

Herman,
So is it supposed to be green on edge of right wing?
Does anybody have photographs (not screenshots) showing colors of lights on edges of both wings of DC-8s, please?
Regards,
Aharon
