Well folks .... welcome to this last HJG update for the 2014 year.

And it looks like we've done it all once again .... gotten through yet another FS year during which we've added quite a number of new classic airline liveries to our growing virtual historic flightline .... whilst also managing to finish the year with a few more and among which a "NEW RELEASE" is included that we hope might please many.

First up among HJG's Christmas goodies for 2014 are some additional improvements for our L-1011 TRISTAR simulations. These refinements come in 2 parts .... both of which are essential and inter-related.

Firstly .... it's a "Gauges/Core Files" update for each of our current 4 L-1011 panels.

And secondly .... it's an "FDE" update for each of our 10 L-1011 the Aircraft Base Packs too.

All folk need to do is this ....

(1) Replace all of the original L-1011 TRISTAR Aircraft base Packs with these new file versions (V3)

(2) Replace the original Gauges/Core Files package with this new new file version (V2.3).

Very simple .... BUT PLEASE .... don't try'n shortcut the replacement/reinstallation procedure. To benefit from these latest enhancements both of these lots of files "must be replaced as directed" .... BUT AS YOU DO SO .... kindly note that "no changes whatesoever" have been applied to any of our current 4 L-1011 TRISTAR panels which were released during April of this year. It's "NOT" necessary .... simply because the new FDE and Gauges/Core files do all of the necessary work.

These latest refinements for our L-1011 TRISTAR simulations will further improve the functionality and fidelity of these simulations .... as described within my recent forum PR of a several days ago ....

Next up is a "NEW RELEASE" .... in the form of the McDONNELL-DOUGLAS DC-10.

These DC-10 models were produced by Erick CANTU/VISTALINERS. When Erick left FS he kindly "gave" most of his FS files to HJG .... and to a few other too I undrstand. None of these models have been modified by us, but, the FDE files which accompany each of the 10 DC-10 Aircraft Base Packs offered by HJG have been "EXTENSIVELY MODIFIED " .... and "SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVED" .... we feel .... and which we also hope might please many also.

Although these DC-10 Aircraft Base Packs aren't FSX native .... they should still run as well as most other HJG offered file if ported-over to FSX.

The 6 DC-10 panels which accompany this release represent the original SGA file which has been tailored slightly and expanded for each DC-10 aircraft version .... and equipped with a few new features too. I do need to stress that save for some elements of private HJG programimg these DC10 panels remain the property of Steffan AHLBURG, Mike BAUMANN, and Fraser TURNER. HJG "DOES NOT" proclaim or imply ownerhip of these panels. All rights are reserved by the respective original authors. The same also applies also in respect of these DC10 models too .... which remain Erick CANTU's work.

There's a "bitter/sweet" side to this release .... and I know what I'm about to say is going to break hearts .... but .... "AS YET" .... these DC-10 panels aren't FSX compatible. For the time being .... they remain "FS2004 ONLY" compatible. Please .... don't be tempted to try these panels in FSX because doing so will only result in a "Fatal CTD". We hope to be able to release FSX compatible port-overs of these same panels sometime during 2015 .... and within which we also hope to be to incorporate a little more variation and sophistication. Please understand .... what we've got here's just "A BASIC ENTRE" .... to be followed (hopefully) by a more apetizing main course with a desert and a few cocktails afterward

I understand some FSX users will feel disapopointed of course .... BUT HEY .... this's the best we achieve for the moment. In any case tFSX specific DC-10 panel options are available (at FLIGHTSIM.COM) and which may work with the HJG supplied Aircraft Base Packs/FDE's .... but remember .... we "don't/can't" provide technical support for non-HJG supplied data

The 3 DC-10 soundpacks accompanying this release each represent "brand new and never previously released material" (based real world recordings) that's been compiled by Benoit PLAMONDON and especially for the HJG supplied FDE's. This audio is FS2004 specific also .... BUT WAIT FOR IT .... FSX specific versions of these same soundpacks "are" being compiled by Benonit "at this very moment" and which we hope to release during early 2015.

The textures/liveries which accompany this DC10 re-release represent a mixture of both "new" and previously released material. In the case of the latter ..... these are mostly "updated/corrected and further improved" versions of the original files making these "the latest/most accurate" versions currently available.

The DC-10 Aircraft Base Packs offered by HJG are aircraft/engine type and weight specific and represent each of the following versions ....

Looks like the new DC10-40 downloads page is currently cross-linked to rhe DC9-30 page (meaniog none of the DC10-40 textures and base packs are currently accessible) .... and .... it looks like the 3 new DC10 soundpacks have inadvertently ended up on the DOUGLAS (rather than the McDONNELL-DOUGLAS) aircraft sounds downloads page also.

Are the HJG DC-10s derived from SGA DC-10s or Thomas Ruth DC-10s or is it totally new model that has no connection to SGA or Thomas Ruth?

Also in respect of the following ....

the HJG DC-10s

I prefer not calling it the HJG DC10. I'd much rather it be referred to as "Erick CANTU's" or the "VISTALINERS DC10" .... simply because that's whom produced it and where we got it from.

The same also applies to the VISTALINERS L1011's too .... and the VISTALINERS B727's, the ARNZ/MURCHISON BAe 146-300/RJ100's, along with the AFG CARAVELLE's also .... HJG "does not" own these products. It just hosts them .... "by consent". It's a small detail perhaps, but, a very valid one too .... I feel


Just comming back to the subject of the Thomas RUTH supplied DC10 models once again ....

These, I believe, are derived from those first compiled by Erick CANTU, but, there's "no relationship" between these and their original versions hosted by HJG .... by virtue of the fact that the Thomas RUTH models are "FSX SPECIFIC" and won't work in FS2004.

Thomas (along with POSKY too I believe) was obviously a recepient of Erick's files at around the same time as we were (2010), but, unlike he, HJG can't modify any of these models for lack of a GMAX modeller among our current team members.

"IF" .... anyone out there "IS" a GMAX modeller .... and "DOES" have something of a respectable track record in regard to FS production .... and might like to assist HJG .... THEN PLEASE .... consider contacting us .... because we might be able to colaborate, not in regard to DC10's, but rather, in respect to "other projects" we'd like to be able to launch in the future.

Also in respect of the Thomas RUTH DC10 models .... some folk might be wondering in regard to the following ....

1. Will any of the HJG offerred DC10 textures fit the RUTH models ?

The answer is .... "I doubt it" .... but then again .... this hasn't been investigasted.

2. Are the HJG offerred DC10 panels/gauges compatible with the RUTH models ?

The simple answer is .... "NO" .... and in any case it's my understanding the RUTH models either come with their own panel or there's an FSX compatible option available for these.

3. Will Benoit's 3 new custom DC10 soundpacks function with the RUTH modela ?

The answer to this one is .... "QUITE POSSIBLY THEY WILL" .... provided the HJG FDE (both CFG and AIR.FILE) are prioritized. The reason for this is because these new DC10 soundpacks are based on the thrust curving compiled into the FDE's provided by HJG. What that means is .... run these soundpacks with another/non-HJG supplied FDE and they'll work, but, not desirably/as intended .... HOWEVER .... run them with our own DC10 FDE's and one should, then, be in for the audio treat of their lives .... an extremly authentic and enjoyable experience to say the very least.

As I mentioned within my orientation notes above ....

Benoit's currently converting each of these 3 new DC10 soundpacks for FSX compatibility .... and taking full advantage of the superior FSX sound engine. Since HJG is focussed upon FS "FREEWARE" production .... as is Thomas RUTH also .... I feel these FSX specific audio productions are something both parties could possibly collaborate with together .... in conjunction with Benoit of course ....

Wow!!! another huge addition to the HJG aircraft inventory. I am not a huge fan of the widebodies but I do recognize the tremendous effort that has gone into this project by all the individual contributers of the HJG Team.

Mark has done another great job with his super detailed descriptions of the DC-10 addition.

I was speechless when I found out about the DC-10 release, love that plane and had almost lost hope of ever finding a decent one for FS9 (same as with the Tristar ) until now. I took a few minutes to test it last night and after a couple of circuits was amazed at how nice it feels to fly it - now looking forward to study a bit more and take it to the skies
