A 777 of BA has made an unpowered emergency landing at heathrow. The undercarriage has been ripped off and everyone escaped, 4 people with minor injuries. Ben

Now tell me that BA made money on that flight (not counting the accident costs) with only 136 passengers on board a 777?! Seems to me a DC-8-62/72 would have been a much better choice. I'll never understand the airlines rushing into all this new high-tech stuff.

Everyone is drawn to one aircraft or another, I particularly like 707-320C's, and yourself and Mr. Halinda particularly favour the DC-8 Super 60's. Its an age old, irrelevant argument.....one that doesn't really matter much in the great scheme of things.....

HMMM .... I can see this one comming up future as one of those "AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION" documentaries .... which in some parts of the world also screen as "MADAY" or "FINAL APPROACH".
YEAH .... I think this is the worlds first major B777 incident .... and the 2nd gliding incident for BA too !
Anyone remember the AIR CANADA B767 fuel incident during the early 1980's .... and more recently that AIR TRANSAT A330 incident too ?

This 'Jim' is indeed a fan of DC-8s, the -40 and -61 series in particular, as Air Canada flew them. I mentioned this before, but as a kid I flew at least twice on AC DC-8s, once in a stretch and once in a 'baby' eight. The stretch could have been a -61 or a -63, but I like to pretend it was a -61 as that's my favourite. The baby could have been a -40 or a -50, but I like to pretend it was a -40 as I love the sound of those RR Conways (at least as the Aeromusica/HJG soundpack represents it)!
Guess I've drifted off-topic from the 777 accident!
